Obvious: FBI suspected that former Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) might have been a crook

Who would have suspected this? /snark
Last week’s release of FBI documents finally put in writing what nobody had ever said on the record: The FBI suspected that former Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) and lobbyists close to him were running a scheme to funnel earmarks to sham companies and nonprofits to benefit the lawmaker’s friends and former staffers.

Bits and pieces of this story were kicked around for years before Murtha died in February 2010. The Los Angeles Times, Roll Call, the Washington Post and others had documented the odd appearance of earmarks for tiny defense contractors that just happened to open an office in western Pennsylvania and just happened to hire one of the lobbying firms close to Murtha and just happened to begin making campaign donations to Murtha and other Members of Congress close to him.

Outrage: Marines Object to Putting John Murtha's Name on Amphibious Warship

John Murtha is an “unindicted co-conspirator” in 1980′s FBI-run Abscam sting who once claimed that Marines in the Iraqi city of Haditha “killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” The only thing Murtha should have named after him is a federal prison.

Time
reported:
And that isn’t the worst of it, according to sailors and Marines: putting Murtha’s name on an amphibious warship designed to carry 700 Marines is outrageous, they maintain, given Murtha’s 2006 charge that Marines in the Iraqi city of Haditha “killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” (One of the eight Marines charged in the case still faces trial; six have had their charges dismissed and one was acquitted.) “Name a ship after a congressman who disgraced himself by rushing to judge that fellow Marines had committed murder in Iraq?”  Thomas Wilkerson, a retired Marine major general who now heads the non-profit U.S. Naval Institute, which advocates for the military’s maritime services, said Sunday. “Can you be serious?

Rep. John P. Murtha gets an earmark from beyond the grave

Even the dead get earmarks in the Democrats Omni-porkulus spending bill.
The John P. Murtha Foundation, initiated after the 18-term appropriator's Feb. 8 death, is in line to get a $10 million earmark for the Murtha Center for Public Service at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Somewhere Murtha is smiling.

Republican Tim Burns In "Dead Heat" To Capture Murtha's House Seat

The Real Clear Politics poll average has Republican Tim burns up by 0.3% points over Democrat Mark Critz in the special election for deceased Rep. John Murtha's House seat. Burns received some last minute campaign help from new GOP Senator Scott Brown (see picture). The latest poll by PPP has Burns up by one. PPP is considered a democratic polling agency.
The special election to replace John Murtha looks to be headed for a photo finish, with Republican Tim Burns leading Democrat Mark Critz 48-47 in PPP's final poll of the race.

Democrats Fear Losing Murtha Seat

Democrats are in such fear of losing deceased Congressman John (Jack) Murtha's seat, they are supporting an alleged pro-life, pro-gun Democrat.
A loss would unnerve Democrats, who face the backlash against the party in power typical for a midterm election year, and depress the outlook for the party's other candidates in Pennsylvania, which Barack Obama won easily in 2008.

Pelosi Calls Murtha “a tireless advocate for our troops, and Marines in particular”

Nancy Pelosi was shameless in her praise for deceased Rep. John Murtha. Pelosi said Murtha was, “a tireless advocate for our troops, and Marines in particular.” John Murtha accused the Marines in the Haditha incident of killing Iraqi civilians "in cold blood" before the Marine Corps report was even issued. After charges were dropped against six and the seventh was found not guilty, Murtha refused to apologize or retract his statement. Here is a video of a reporter asking Murtha to apologize after charges were dropped against some of the Marines.

From Hot Air:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised the Navy’s decision to name an amphibious warship after Rep. John Murtha, but the formal announcement Friday added fuel to an already smoldering backlash online.

Murtha — “our dear Jack,” as Pelosi referred to him — deserved the honor as a tireless advocate for troops generally and Marines in particular, she said, and she recalled admiring his rapport with them.

“Whether on the battlefield, or on the bedside, he thanked them for their courage, listened to their concerns, and asked them for comment — and he answered their needs, and responded to their calls, whether it was for body armor, up-armored vehicles… radios, you name it,” Pelosi said. “In those minutes [together], he bonded with them especially because he would share his own personal military service with them, and cared for them as a father. They knew it, and they returned his respect.”

John Murtha gets angry when asked about corruption (video)

Rep. John Murtha (D-Penn.) is well know for insulting our troops in Iraq and pork barrel politics. His nephew got $4 million in no bid defense contracts. Now he is linked to another company under investigation.
From RealClearPolitics:

Nephew of John Murtha received $4 million in "no bid" defense contracts

John Murtha(D for despicable) is already known for being a king of pork. He steered millions to a local airport that is seldom used. Rep. Murtha is a Pennsylvania Democrat who has significant sway over the Defense Department's spending as chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee. His largess does not stop at the local residents of his district. His nephew has received a $4 million "no bid" defense contract. The Washington Post reported:
The headquarters of Murtech, in a low-slung, bland building in a Glen Burnie business park, has its blinds drawn tight and few signs of life. On several days of visits, a handful of cars sit in the parking lot, and no trucks arrive at the 10 loading bays at the back of the building.

Yet last year, Murtech received $4 million in Pentagon work, all of it without competition, for a variety of warehousing and engineering services. With its long corridor of sparsely occupied offices and an unmanned reception area, Murtech's most striking feature is its owner -- Robert C. Murtha Jr., 49. He is the nephew of Rep. John P. Murtha, the Pennsylvania Democrat who has significant sway over the Defense Department's spending as chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee.
