Texas National Guard is staying on the border for now...

Someone will have to stop the illegal border crossings. Barack Obama is actually encouraging them.

Via Military Times
National Guard troops sent to the Texas-Mexico border last summer are now in line to stay indefinitely and not come home in March as originally planned, Republican Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Tuesday.
The shift comes only four weeks after Rick Perry, who ordered 1,000 armed Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley in one of his last major acts as Texas governor, was replaced by a successor who has promised an even tougher line on border security.
Gov. Greg Abbott did not attend the announcement and no plans have been formalized. But an extended Guard deployment is the latest signal that Texas’ new conservative leadership is planning record state spending on border security, even while acknowledging that illegal crossings have slowed dramatically.[…]
Patrick’s budget in the Texas Senate calls for spending $815 million on border security — which he says is more than the last seven years combined.
The Texas Military Department estimates that a Guard force “of 400-500 best saves resources,” according to a memo from Patrick’s office.

Hero: Gov. Rick Perry sending National Guard to border...

Your move Obama.

Via The Monitor:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry is set to announce Monday that 1,000 U.S. National Guard troops will be deployed to the Rio Grande Valley, according to an internal memo detailing the plan obtained on Sunday.
State Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, confirmed that Perry is set to announce the deployment on Monday.
“Gov. Perry plans to hold a press conference tomorrow at 2 p.m. and he is calling up the National Guard to help out on the border,” Hinojosa said Sunday evening. “Of course, we are opposed to bringing up the National Guard. We do not need to militarize the border. These are families and children. We need to manage the situation.”
The National Guard troops will be deployed to the Valley to join the Texas Department of Public Safety in its recent surge to combat human smuggling and drug trafficking amid the influx of mostly Central Americans illegally crossing the Rio Grande.
“This is not a militarization of the border,” the memo states. “The DPS and the National Guard are working to keep any drug and human trafficking south of (U.S. Highway) 83 and with the goal of keeping any smuggling from entering major highways to transport East/West/and North.”
DPS officials want to send National Guard troops into western areas of the Valley and the ranch lands further north, according to the memo.

Bloomberg on Brooklyn plea for National Guard: “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Shocking political correctness and plain stupidity...

The Brooklyn Paper:
Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.
“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”
Markowitz demanded the National Guard’s help just an hour before Bloomberg’s press conference, claiming that the NYPD and FDNY are “brave — but overwhelmed” by all the challenges Sandy brought when it visited the borough on Monday night: flooding, power outages, and looting.
“All of our resources have been stretched to the limit,” Markowitz said. “In the name of public safety we need to send more National Guard personnel into Coney Island, Manhattan Beach, Gerritsen Beach, Red Hook, and any other locations.”

Obama Sends National Guard to Border. Obama Pulls National Guard From Border.

It was all for show anyway. They were unarmed and prohibited from enforcing U.S. law.

The Washington Examiner reported:
The Obama Administration plans to withdraw National Guard troops from the Texas, New Mexico and California borders by the end of February under a new Southwest security plan, even as turmoil in Mexican border cities grows, according to documents obtained by The Washington Examiner.

A letter sent to various members of the Texas Congressional delegation from Texas’ Gov. Rick Perry’s office says, “In February, 2011, the Texas, New Mexico, and California National Guard forces that were deployed to the border in September, 2010, under President’s Obama’s Southwest Border Augmentation Plan, will have 30 days to complete a total draw down of forces.”

Not Only Will National Guard On Arizona Border Not Be Enforcing Immigration, They Will Not Be Armed

What is the purpose of sending 1200 National Guard to the Arizona border if they won't enforce immigration law or even be armed? How will they stop the heavily armed drug gangs? Will they throw rocks? This is insane. President Obama is putting National Guard troops in harms way for a useless political gesture.

Mexican Government OK With National Guard On The Border As Long As They Do Not Enforce Immigration Law

The Mexican government is OK with President Obama's decision to send 1200 National Guard to the Arizona border as long as they only look for organized criminals. They should ignore the illegal immigrants running past them.
STATEMENT BY THE EMBASSY OF MEXICO

Washington D.C, May 25th, 2010

Regarding the Administration’s decision to send 1,200 National Guard servicemen to the US Southern border, the Government of Mexico trusts that this decision will help to channel additional US resources to enhance efforts to prevent the illegal flows of weapons and bulk cash into Mexico, which provide organized crime with its firepower and its ability to corrupt.

Additionally, the Government of Mexico expects that National Guard personnel will strengthen US operations in the fight against transnational organized crime that operates on both sides of our common border and that it will not, in accordance to its legal obligations, conduct activities directly linked to the enforcement of immigration laws.

The National Guard is recruiting Internment Specialists?

Why? The war in Iraq is winding down. Why would the National Guard start advertising all over the Internet for Internment/Resettlement (I/R) Specialists? The ad pictured below is on the front page of GoArmy.com. The ad is also featured at Monster.com.
