Pakistani men with terrorist ties caught on southern border...

There is nothing to see here. Please move along.

Via Washington Times:
The Border Patrol nabbed two Pakistani men with ties to terrorism at the U.S.-Mexico border in September in the latest instance of illegal immigrants from so-called “special interest countries” using the southern border as a point of entry to the U.S.
Muhammad Azeem and Mukhtar Ahmad, both in their 20s and from Gujrat, were caught Sept. 20 by agents south of San Diego and just over the international border from Tijuana. When agents checked their identities through databases they got hits on both of them: Mr. Ahmad popped up as an associate of a known or suspected terrorist, while Mr. Azeem’s information had been shared by a foreign government for intelligence purposes.

Obama calls out Turkey for not controlling Syrian border; Turkey calls out Obama for not controlling Mexican border...

Touché...

Via Daily Caller:
President Barack Obama wants Turkey to close its 60-mile-long border with Syria to end the influx of new Islamic State fighters pouring into Syria and Iraq.
If Turkey acquiesces to Obama’s demands, no entry points will remain between the two countries. The entire border is 550 miles long, The Wall Street Journal reports.
But a Turkish official quickly pointed out to The Wall Street Journal the irony in Washington’s call to close off the border, given the U.S. is completely unable to stop flows in and out of Mexico.

Report: 8 Syrians caught trying to illegally cross the Mexican border...

As porous as the border is, I have to wonder how many we have missed...

Two federal agents operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are claiming that eight Syrian illegal aliens attempted to enter Texas from Mexico in the Laredo Sector. The federal agents spoke with Breitbart Texas on the condition of anonymity, however, a local president of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) confirmed that Laredo Border Patrol agents have been officially contacting the organization with concerns over reports from other federal agents about Syrians illegally entering the country in the Laredo Sector. The reports have caused a stir among the sector’s Border Patrol agents.
The sources claimed that eight Syrians were apprehended on Monday, November 16, 2015. According to the sources, the Syrians were in two separate “family units” and were apprehended at the Juarez Lincoln Bridge in Laredo, Texas, also known officially as Port of Entry 1.

Texas National Guard is staying on the border for now...

Someone will have to stop the illegal border crossings. Barack Obama is actually encouraging them.

Via Military Times
National Guard troops sent to the Texas-Mexico border last summer are now in line to stay indefinitely and not come home in March as originally planned, Republican Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Tuesday.
The shift comes only four weeks after Rick Perry, who ordered 1,000 armed Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley in one of his last major acts as Texas governor, was replaced by a successor who has promised an even tougher line on border security.
Gov. Greg Abbott did not attend the announcement and no plans have been formalized. But an extended Guard deployment is the latest signal that Texas’ new conservative leadership is planning record state spending on border security, even while acknowledging that illegal crossings have slowed dramatically.[…]
Patrick’s budget in the Texas Senate calls for spending $815 million on border security — which he says is more than the last seven years combined.
The Texas Military Department estimates that a Guard force “of 400-500 best saves resources,” according to a memo from Patrick’s office.

Judicial Watch confirms ISIS terrorists are coming across the Mexican border...

Political heads are going to roll before this is over.

Via Judicial Watch:
Islamic terrorists have entered the United States through the Mexican border and Homeland Security sources tell Judicial Watch that four have been apprehended in the last 36 hours by federal authorities and the Texas Department of Public Safety in McAllen and Pharr.
JW confirmed this after California Congressman Duncan Hunter, a former Marine Corp Major and member of the House Armed Services Committee, disclosed on national television that at least ten Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) fighters have been caught crossing the Mexican border in Texas. The veteran lawmaker got the astounding intel straight from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Homeland Security agency responsible for guarding the 1,933-mile southern border.
“If you really want to protect Americans from ISIS, you secure the southern border,” Hunter proclaimed on a national cable news show this week. “It’s that simple. ISIS doesn’t have a navy, they don’t have an air force, they don’t have nuclear weapons. The only way that ISIS is going to harm Americans is by coming in through the southern border – which they already have.” The three-term congressmen went on: “They aren’t flying B-1 bombers, bombing American cities, but they are going to be bombing American cities coming across from Mexico.”

Tweet of the Day: Illegal Immigrants From Ebola Outbreak Nations Caught Along Our Border

All the more reason to secure the southern border.

Via Valley Central:
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a level three warning for US citizens to avoid traveling to West African countries experiencing an outbreak of Ebola.
Immigrants from West African countries have entered the US illegally, according to Chris Cabrera with the National Border Patrol Council.
“Not too long ago we did catch some people, I believe, from Liberia,” he said.
During the 2013 fiscal year, statistics from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security website show Border Patrol agents apprehended 112 immigrants from Guinea, 231 from Liberia and 145 immigrants from Sierra Leone, which are the three countries currently experiencing the most cases of Ebola.

Foreigners cross border illegally= $0 fine, Americans cross border illegally= $5000 fine...

This is the strange country and time we now live in...

Via Washington Times:
U.S. Border Patrol agents slapped a $5,000 fine on an American citizen this week for slipping into the United States from Canada on a mountain bike, the agency announced Wednesday.
The 40-year-old American and his 44-year-old Canadian companion were nabbed Sunday near Houlton, Maine, after allegedly biking across the border south of Notre Dame, Canada, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
A Border Patrol agent spotted the two men at about 2:30 p.m. with mountain bikes on a dirt road near the border. After questioning the suspects, the agent arrested them for illegally crossing the border.
Each was fined $5,000, said CBP.
If the same penalty was applied to American’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrations, the federal government could collect $55 billion.

Obama and dems claim the border is secure. Border patrol take .50- caliber fire from Mexican side...

Now you know why Obama won't go to the border. It's not secure or safe. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason he won't visit is security objections by the Secret Service. He would need fighters overhead and American Apache helicopters and Green Berets on the Mexican side.
“When the shooting stopped, about 40 to 50 people came out on the U.S. side and turned themselves in. So clearly the rounds were being fired to suppress every effort to stop anybody intervening with anyone or anything coming across,” Gohmert added. “We have no idea what or how many or whom came across with the other illegal immigrants.”
Sources said they believe the gunfire came from members of Mexican drug cartels, which include former military members trained in shooting that type of weaponry.
Border Patrol sources said the rounds were clearly identifiable because .50- caliber weapons make a distinctive noise when fired. Sources said they also believe this is the first time that Border Patrol agents have taken direct fire from the Mexican side of the river in this area.
“I don’t know why we’re out here like sitting ducks,” one Border Patrol source said. “We need help.”

Obama drinks up as the border burns...

Priorities...

Did you know Obama cancelled the 4th Amendment if you are within 100 miles of the border?

Liberals can't blame this one on Bush. It's an Obama policy.

Via Wired:
A federal judge today upheld a President Barack Obama administration policy allowing authorities along the U.S. border to seize and search laptops, smartphones and other electronic devices for any reason.
The decision (.pdf) by U.S. District Judge Edward Korman in New York comes as laptops, and now smartphones, have become virtual extensions of ourselves, housing everything from email to instant-message chats to our papers and effects.
The American Civil Liberties Union brought the challenge nearly three years ago, claiming U.S. border officials should have reasonable suspicion to search gadgets along the border because of the data they store. But Judge Korman said the so-called “border exemption,” in which people can be searched for no reason at all along the border, continues to apply in the digital age.
Alarmingly, the government contends the Fourth-Amendment-Free Zone stretches 100 miles inland from the nation’s actual border.

Rasmussen: Only 28 percent believe the federal government will secure the border if the immigration bill passes

Those in the 28% of believers are very naive...

Via TWS:
A new poll by Rasmussen finds that only 28 percent believe the federal government will secure the border if the immigration bill passes.
“Regardless of what a comprehensive immigration reform plan promises, voters are less confident than ever that the federal government really would secure the border to prevent future illegal immigration.  Still, voters continue to support the concept of comprehensive reform. Sixty percent (60%) of Likely U.S. Voters now favor an immigration plan that gives those here illegally legal status to stay provided the border is really secured to prevent future immigration. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 25% oppose such a plan, while 15% are undecided,” Rasmussen writes.

Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals rules DHS needs “reasonable suspicion” for warrant-less electronic device search at border...

I don't usually agree with the liberal  Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, but I support this decision.

Via CNET:
U.S. customs officials must have a reasonable justification before snatching your laptop at the border and scanning through all your files for incriminating data, a federal appeals court ruled today.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Homeland Security’s border agents must have “reasonable suspicion” before they can legally conduct a forensics examination of laptops, mobile phones, camera memory cards, and so on.
Today’s opinion (PDF) is a limited — but hardly complete — rejection of the Obama administration’s claim that any American entering the country may have his or her electronic files minutely examined for evidence of criminal activity. Homeland Security has said the electronic border searches could detect terrorists, drug smugglers, and people violating “copyright or trademark laws.”
It’s only a limited rejection because certain warrantless searches at the border remain permissible: The judges said that “a quick look” or “unintrusive search” of a laptop, such as asking its owner to turn it on and peruse open windows, is perfectly OK. In addition, the court indicated that previous criminal history qualifies as “reasonable suspicion” that justifies a complete forensics analysis.

Clueless: NYC Mayor Bloomberg claims, "...nobody has come across the [Mexico]border in a long time,”

Somebody sell Mayor Bloomberg a vowel...
(CNSNews.com) – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg indicated that illegal border crossings from Mexico into the United States have been non-existent for a “long time.”
Speaking at an Aug. 14 immigration-related panel discussion in Boston sponsored by the New England Council, New York City’s independent mayor advised illegal immigrants that they should not waste their time and risk the dangers of crossing the desert to illegally enter the U.S. Instead, he said, they should fly in with a visa and overstay their allowed time of admission.
Jerry Seib of The Wall Street Journal, the event’s moderator, asked Bloomberg, “My son is a physics major down the road at Brown University, if you let in a lot of foreign science, technology, and engineering [majors], aren’t you diluting his job market? And my sister lives in Amarillo, Texas, and they’re very worried about waves coming up north over the border there. What are you going to tell them?”
“Number one nobody has come across the border in a long time,” responded the mayor. “I mean we spend a fortune on technology, and if you want to come to America illegally, don’t waste your time going across the border and through the desert. It’s dangerous. Just get on an airplane, fly here, and overstay your visa. We have absolutely no ability to track who you are and get you back.

HSS Janet Napolitano admits terrorists crossing southern border

Janet Napolitano is doing everything she can to keep the border safe, except for effectively guarding it or building a fence.
(CNSNews.com) -- Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Congress last week that terrorists intending to harm the American people enter the U.S. from Mexico “from time to time."

At a July 25 hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Ron Barber (D-Ariz.) asked Napolitano: “As you know, Madam Secretary, there have been anecdotal reports about material evidence of the presence of terrorists along our southern border. My question is, is there any credible evidence that these reports are accurate and that terrorists are, in fact, crossing our southern border with the intent to do harm to the American people?”

Napolitano answered: “With respect, there have been--and the Ababziar matter would be one I would refer to that's currently being adjudicated in the criminal courts--from time to time, and we are constantly working against different and evolving threats involving various terrorist groups and various ways they may seek to enter the country.”

“What I can tell you, however, is that that southern border--the U.S.-Mexico border--is heavily, heavily staffed at record amounts of manpower, materiel, infrastructure and the like, and we are constantly making sure we're doing all we can to make that border as safe as possible,” she said.

Big Sis Develops an Interest in Border Security

The Closing of the American Border: Terrorism, Immigration, and Security Since 9/11
It isn't what you were hoping for. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is interested in border security in Afghanistan.

(The Hill) — Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano touched down in Afghanistan on Friday morning and planned to spend New Year’s Eve visiting troops.

Six Department of Homeland Security (DHS) customs and border security officials will accompany Napolitano on the weeklong trip, which will include stops in Qatar, Israel and Belgium.

Napolitano spent Friday morning touring Afghanistan’s Torkham Border Crossing with Pakistan and meeting with Afghan an U.S. border security and customs officials to find new ways to establish a border-security and customs system to counter terrorism while allowing legitimate travel and trade.

Remember those stronger ID checks that are supposed to be taking place at the border?

San Antonio Then and Now (Then & Now)
It's not happening.

My San Antonio reported:
WASHINGTON — A federal audit now documents what at least a million border crossers already knew: U.S. border agents are failing to fully enforce laws requiring U.S., Mexican and Canadian citizens to present passports or other documents to enter the United States.
