Meet a real hero (75 year-old man took on a teen with a knife to save some kids)

A 75 year-old man took on a teen with a knife to save some kids...

Via Fox News:

A former Army vet is recovering from stab wounds after putting himself between 16 terrified children and a knife-wielding teen determined to kill at an Illinois public library this week.
“He actually ran into the room yelling, ‘I’m going to kill some people!’” James Vernon told the Pekin Daily Times Thursday.
Vernon, 75– a retired Caterpillar technology worker and Army vet—is recovering from surgery at his home in Morton, Illinois. He was leading a chess club meeting with local kids at the Morton library Tuesday afternoon when Dustin Brown, 19, burst into the room holding a knife in each hand and threatening the children.
“I failed my mission to kill everyone,” Brown told police Thursday, according to a prosecutor’s court affidavit that accompanied formal charges, including attempted murder.

Hero: 90-year-old man pulled his wife of 68 years to safety in her wheelchair

The bond that couldn't be broken...

Via NYDN:
A 90-year-old man pulled his wife of 68 years to safety in her wheelchair as a fire ravaged their North Carolina home.
Arthur Schneider jumped into action after a lightning storm hit a street transformer, causing flames to crawl through his Asheboro house, he told the Daily News Saturday.
Arthur immediately thought of his wife Rosemary, 89, who has Parkinson’s disease and dementia. She was all the way at the back of the house and cannot walk.
“I had to go back and get her,” Arthur said. “She’s part of me.”

Hero: 56-year old woman in India fights leopard to death with hand tools...

Bad to the bone...

Via The NY Post:
A 56-year old woman has won a fierce battle with a leopard in India.
Kamla Devi, from Uttarakhand, was attacked while working in a field near her village, the Hindustan Times reports.
She fought the big cat with a sickle and axes and sustained bites and fractures in the attack.
Devi told reporters she was terrified at first but discovered her courage and promised herself it was not her “last day” on Earth.
“I fought head on with it for almost half an hour. Then I came to know it was dead,” she told local reporters.
Doctors were reportedly surprised she had survived the attack.
Devi’s fight comes after a group leopards recently killed another woman in the area.

Ft. Hood hero who was guest at SOTU 3 years ago feels "betrayed" by Obama...

The "betrayed" by Obama club just got bigger...

Via ABC News:
Three years after the White House arranged a hero’s welcome at the State of the Union address for the Fort Hood police sergeant and her partner who stopped the deadly shooting there, Kimberly Munley says President Obama broke the promise he made to her that the victims would be well taken care of.

“Betrayed is a good word,” former Sgt. Munley told ABC News in a tearful interview to be broadcast tonight on “World News with Diane Sawyer” and “Nightline.”

“Not to the least little bit have the victims been taken care of,” she said. “In fact they’ve been neglected.”

There was no immediate comment from the White House about Munley’s allegations. [...] Keep on reading...

Allen West on outrage about Marines urinating on Taliban: "...unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell."

Hero.

In an e-mail to The Weekly Standard, West wrote:
I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.
All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?
The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.
As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.

Hero: Sen. Rand Paul returns $500,000 of his budget to the U.S. Treasury

Is this a first?
Freshman Sen. Rand Paul is making good on his promise to cut federal spending. The Kentucky Republican and tea-party favorite said Thursday he’s returning $500,000 to the U.S. Treasury — money from his operating budget that his office never spent.

The half million dollars represents about 16 percent of Paul’s annual budget. He contended no senator had returned as much to taxpayers, though at least two senators disputed that claim. An aide to Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) said his office returned $636,036 in unspent money to the Treasury in Fiscal Year 2010 and another $503,161 in 2011.

“I ran to stop the reckless spending. And I ran to end the damaging process of elected officials acting as errand boys, competing to see who could bring back the biggest check and the most amount of pork,” Paul said at a news conference in Louisville, where he presented taxpayers with a massive mock check for $500,000.

President Obama has called and apologized to the family of Sgt. 1st Class Jared C. Monti

President Obama has called and apologized to the family of Sgt. 1st Class Jared C. Monti. Obama claimed Sgt. 1st Class Jared C. Monti was alive, but President Obama awarded him the Medal of Honor posthumously. This was a horrible gaffe by President Obama. He really needs his teleprompter. We should commend Obama for personally calling the family and apologizing. It was the right thing to do.
(ABC News) — President Obama today apologized to the family of a Medal of Honor recipient whom he erroneously said was still alive.
On Thursday at Fort Drum, the president told troops from the 10th Mountain Division that he previously “had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn’t receiving it posthumously.”
Wrong. Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti was actually killed in Afghanistan on June 21, 2006. In September 2009, President Obama awarded him the Medal of Honor posthumously.
On his Facebook page this evening, Monti’s father, Paul, posted: “FYI — President Barack Obama telephoned me personally this afternoon to apologize for his error in his speech to the 10th mountain division re: Jared’s medal ceremony. Apology accepted.”
