Head exploding irony: WH spokesman Josh Earnest, "No public official that is above the rule of law”

Chutzpah!

Via TPM:
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Thursday afternoon that no public official, including the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed earlier in the day for refusing to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples, is above the law.
Kim Davis, a clerk from Rowan County, Kentucky, was found in contempt of court and taken into federal custody Thursday.
Earnest told reporters during his daily media briefing that he had not yet talked with President Obama about Davis being taken into custody.
“On principle, the success of our democracy depends on the rule of law. And there is no public official that is above the rule of law,” Earnest said. “Certainly not the President of the United States, but neither is the Rowan County clerk. That’s a principle that is enshrined in our Constitution and in our democracy and it’s one that obviously the courts are seeking to uphold.”

Irony: ISIS executes Imam for being too extreme...

ISIS was kicked out of Al Qaeda for being too extreme. This Imam is hard to imagine...

Via Shoebat
You heard it right; ISIS Executed an Imam for being too extreme. Al-Arabia had this to say about the latest execution of a popular Imam named Hossein Reza Larry:
“According to sources close to the extremists who are fighting in Syria that the organization (Daash) executed Abba Omar al-Kuwaiti (Hossein Reza Larry) on charges of “extremism.” The sources pointed out that the reasons for the decision taken by Daash is his continuation to preach sermons that were “inciting extremism against members of other Islamic groups especially Al-Nusra front,” and that he continued to launch fatwas calling a fight, “which created a negative impact on the efforts of reconciliation between the two organizations”.

Irony: House Democrats check into a $695 a night hotel to discuss income inequality...

Chutzpah!

Via Mike Flynn:
Democrats have made the issue of “income inequality” the cornerstone of their platform going into the November elections. In less than two months, the House Democrats will discuss this and other issues at the swanky and posh St. Regis hotel in Manhattan. Rooms start at $695 a night if you would like to join them.
Of course, you can’t simply show up at the DCCC’s “Issues Conference.” According to the email invitation, “[t]his annual Issues  Conference is open to 2014 DCCC Business and Labor Council Platinum Members and to our 2014 Chairman’s Council Members.” I’m not certain what it takes to be a “plantinum member,” but I imagine it takes the kind of money that doesn’t blink at a $695 hotel room. Helpfully, the DCCC says you can contact them to determine one’s “eligibility.”

Irony: Theme song from Titanic was playing as Italian cruise ship capsized

You just can't make this up.
The theme song from the film Titanic is said to have been playing in one of Costa Concordia's restaurants as the cruise ship began to list.

Yannic Sgaga and his brother Kevin told Swiss paper La Tribune de Geneve Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On from the hit 1997 film was playing when the accident happened off the Tuscan coast on Friday.
"Images from the film Titanic are more realistic than one might imagine. They kept coming into my head," Yannic Sgaga said.

Ironic: NAACP chapter barred from Martin Luther King Jr. event

Apparently, there is bad blood between New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and local NAACP chapter President Danatus King. Rev. King is probably rolling over in his grave at this foolishness.
(Nola.com)- Even before Mayor Mitch Landrieu took office in May 2010, he and local NAACP chapter President Danatus King embarked on what has become a series of public clashes. The list of skirmishes grew by one last week....

Then last week, King accused the Landrieu administration of refusing to allow the local NAACP branch to join in a ceremony prior to a city-sponsored march on Jan. 16 celebrating the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

"When you have an organization, the largest and oldest civil rights organization -- an organization that worked hand in hand with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King -- and they are not only overlooked, but they are denied participation, it's not only an insult, but a disrespect," King told WWL-TV.

The Rev. Norwood Thompson, chairman of the MLK Celebration Commission, told the station that King's request came too late for inclusion in this year's program but that the NAACP will be considered for participation in the future.

Irony on Steroids: VP Joe Biden Attends Closed Door Meeting on Transparency

The irony meter exploded on this one.
“At 1:00 PM, the Vice President will attend a meeting of the Government Accountability and Transparency Board in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. At 2:30 PM, the Vice President will meet with representatives of the National Sheriffs' Association in the Roosevelt Room. These meetings are closed press.

(It was only two months ago that State Department officials briefed reporters on transparency efforts but refused to have their names be printed; and in March, the White House postponed a pooled-press ceremony for President Obama to get an openness award -- it was later rescheduled and carried out in an undisclosed meeting.)

Irony: Occupy Atlanta Protests Consumption and Gets Consumption

There is a drug-resistant tuberculosis outbreak at Occupy Atlanta.

Via Fox Nation:
ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) – The home base for Occupy Atlanta has tested positive for tuberculosis.

The Fulton County Health Department confirmed Wednesday that residents at the homeless shelter where protesters have been occupying have contracted the drug-resistant disease. WGCL reports that a health department spokeswoman said there is a possibility that both Occupy Atlanta protesters and the homeless people in the shelter may still be at risk since tuberculosis is contracted through air contact.

Ironic: OWS Protesters Complain About Homeless Not Pulling Their Weight

Oh, the a$$ exploding irony...

Money quote from OWS protester:
"If you're going to come here and get our food, bedding and clothing, have books and medical supplies for no charge, they need to give back," Digioia said. "There's a lot of takers here and they feel entitled."
The Tea Party never had this problem. They couldn't occupy anyplace long-term because they had jobs to do, families to support and taxes to pay.
(NY Daily News)- Zuccotti Park has become a haven for the homeless.

Enticed by the allure of free food and a community of open-minded people, increasing numbers are leaving New York's shelters to join the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

"I think this is a better situation to be involved with," said Matthew Maloney, 49, who was released from prison on Sept. 30 after serving time for a probation violation.

Maloney moved into a shelter in Staten Island and learned about Occupy Wall Street while watching television. Then the ex-con headed to Zuccotti Park on Oct. 13 and never left.

"I am around a good cause and around positive people, rather than in that other environment," he said.
Maloney has drifted in and out of the state prison system for more than three decades for a variety of crimes, including robbery and possession of stolen property...
"We have compassion toward everyone. However, we have certain rules and guidelines," said Lauren Digioia, 26, a member of the sanitation committee.

Irony: 'Rent Is Too Damn High Party' founder gets evicted because rent is too damn low

Perhaps, 'Rent Is Too Damn High Party' founder, Jimmy McMillan, will be getting a free new pad in 2012. He is running for President.
The man who ran for New York governor under the Rent Is Too Damn High Party banner claims he is being kicked out of his Manhattan apartment -- because the rent is too damn low, the New York Post reported Friday.

Jimmy McMillan says he pays $872.96 for a rent-controlled ground-floor apartment on St. Marks Place in the East Village -- which he's had since the late-1970s, when the rent was around $275.

But the man who founded the tenants-rights party says his landlords are giving him the boot so they can pull in way more dough.

"I've been here since 1977, and they want more money!" McMillan said. "It's about 'My Rent is Too Damn Low.'"

Strange: Woman dies from shock of discovering she had been declared dead

I am speechless.
A woman died from a heart attack caused by shock after waking up to discover she had been declared dead - and was being prepared for burial.

As mourning relatives filed past her open coffin the supposedly dead woman suddenly woke up and started screaming as she realised where she was.

Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov, 49, had been wrongly declared deceased by doctors but died for real after hearing mourners saying prayers for her soul to be taken up to heaven in Kazan, Russia.

Devastated husband Fagili Mukhametzyanov, 51, had been told his wife had died of a heart attack after she'd collapsed at home suffering from chest pains.

Mr Mukhametzyanov said: 'Her eyes fluttered and we immediately rushed her back to the hospital but she only lived for another 12 minutes in intensive care before she died again, this time for good.

Irony: President Obama accepts “transparency” award in secret

You just can't make stuff like this up.

(POLITICO) President Obama finally and quietly accepted his “transparency” award from the open government community this week — in a closed, undisclosed meeting at the White House on Monday.

The secret presentation happened almost two weeks after the White House inexplicably postponed the ceremony, which was expected to be open to the press pool.

Jesse Jackson's has a “Jobs, Justice, Peace” and "who stole and stripped my car" moment

I really hate to laugh at a crime victim, but indulge me this time. Ha ha.

The Michigan View reported:
Following the embarrassing news that Mayor Dave Bing’s GMC Yukon was hijacked by criminals this week, Detroit’s Channel 7 reports that the Reverend’s Caddy Escalade SUV was stolen and stripped of its wheels while he was in town last weekend with the UAW’s militant President Bob King leading the “Jobs, Justice, and Peace” march promoting government-funded green jobs.

Yes, your read that correctly. Jackson drove a Cadillac Escalade SUV to a green jobs event. Ha ha again.

A Double Irony

An inmate in Ohio was scheduled to be put to put to death by a lethal injection of drugs in a few hours. How does he respond? He tries to commit suicide by a lethal overdose. How does the state respond? They save his life and put him on suicide watch. He execution has been rescheduled for next week. This inmate wants to die to keep the state from killing him and the state wants to keep him alive so they can put him to death. Oh, the irony.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Officials say an Ohio inmate who intentionally overdosed on pills hours before his scheduled execution has returned to prison and is on suicide watch.

Prisons spokeswoman Julie Walburn says 43-year-old Lawrence Reynolds Jr., ...

Oh, The Irony! The Chinese Censor Obama's Call To End Censorship

At a town hall with Chinese students President Obama said,
"I'm a big supporter of non-censorship," Obama said. "I recognize that different countries have different traditions. I can tell you that in the United States, the fact that we have free Internet — or unrestricted Internet access — is a source of strength, and I think should be encouraged."

Of course, most Chinese didn't hear these words because censors kept them from seeing the town hall.
The town hall meeting was one of the few unscripted moments on the president's trip. It was supposed to be carried live on Chinese state television but at the last moment, the Chinese government changed its mind and only local stations in Shanghai, and the White House Web site, carried it live.

Obama should have expected this. After all, the Chinese censored part of his inaugural address in January.
BEIJING — President Obama’s 18-minute Inaugural Address on Tuesday was generally lauded by Americans for its candor and conviction. But the Chinese Communist Party apparently thought the new American president’s gilded words were a little too direct.

China Central Television, or CCTV, the main state-run network, broadcast the address live until the moment Mr. Obama mentioned “communism” in a line about the defeat of ideologies considered anathema to Americans. After the translator said “communism” in Chinese, the audio faded out even as Mr. Obama’s lips continued to move.

"The audio faded out even as Mr. Obama’s lips continued to move." Many Americans have wished for that moment.
