AP) — Transgender students on Wednesday lost federal protections that allowed them to use school bathrooms and locker rooms matching their gender identities, as the Trump administration stepped into a long-simmering national debate. The administration came down on the side of states’ rights, lifting Obama-era federal guidelines that had been characterized by Republicans as an example of overreach.Without the Obama directive, it will be up to states and school districts to interpret federal anti-discrimination law and determine whether students should have access to restrooms in accordance with their expressed gender identity and not just their biological sex.“This is an issue best solved at the state and local level,” Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said. “Schools, communities and families can find – and in many cases have found – solutions that protect all students.”

Adult Leadership: Trump reverses Obama guidelines that promoted schools allowing boys to shower with girls
If you think it's a good idea to #ProtectTransKids by making high school showers co-ed, you must be a 15 year-old boy. No sane adult would think this was a good idea, but we are talking about policies instituted by liberals.

Detroit Schools: Little Johnny can't read or do math...
This is what years of control by liberals do to a school system...
(CNSNews.com) – In the Detroit public school district, 96 percent of eighth graders are not proficient in mathematics and 93 percent are not proficient in reading.
That is according to the results of the 2015 National Assessment of Educational Progress tests published by the Department of Education’s National Center for Educational Statistics.
Only 4 percent of Detroit public school eighth graders are proficient or better in math and only 7 percent in reading. This is despite the fact that in the 2011-2012 school year—the latest for which the Department of Education has reported the financial data—the Detroit public schools had “total expenditures” of $18,361 per student and “current expenditures” of $13,330 per student.

UN report confirms #Hamas used schoolchildren as human shields... #tcot #Israel
Cowards...
Via NY Post:
Via NY Post:
The headlines in most places were entirely predictable: “UN Says Israel Killed 44 Palestinians in Schools During Gaza War.” That was indeed one finding of a UN report published Monday — but only part of the story.
The report also confirmed something Israel’s been saying all along: Hamas stored mortars and other weapons in at least three UN schools during last summer’s war and fired rockets at Israel from two of them.
Israel repeatedly made that point during the conflict to explain why it was firing on schools (and mosques and hospitals) where Palestinians had taken refuge.
Because Hamas, desperate to win world sympathy by any means, has always been happy to use Palestinian innocents as human shields — the more casualties, the better.

School calls military style haircut extreme...
Can we ban liberal school administrators? The dipsh*ts made the boy shave his head.
Via Daily Caller:
Via Daily Caller:
A second grader in McMinneville, Tennessee has been forced to shave his head after his principal said his “military” haircut wouldn’t be allowed in class.
According to Adam Stinnet’s parents, the seven-year-old boy got a “high and tight” haircut to imitate his brother, a soldier in the Army who has served in Afghanistan. Just one day later, on March 9, the family received a letter from the principal saying the boy’s new look violated a school rule against “mohawk haircuts and other extreme cuts.”
His parents disagreed and sent Adam to school again without cutting his hair. This time, his mother, Amy, was summoned to meet the principal in person, and was told that until Adam’s hairdo changed, he would not be allowed back in class.
Deciding that the hair wasn’t worth having Adam suspended, Amy decided to give in.
“I did shave his head,” Stinnett said Thursday, according to the Army Times. “With no hair, he looks sick all the time.”

Unaccompanied alien children will cost one school district in Louisiana $4.6 million this year

Via Washington Free Beacon:
Via Washington Free Beacon:
The influx of unaccompanied alien children will cost one school district in Louisiana $4.6 million alone this year, as local school budgets across the country are bearing the brunt of the thousands of illegal immigrant minors who crossed the border this summer.
According to the Louisiana department of education’s response to an inquiry by Sen. David Vitter (R., La.), the Jefferson Parish School System will be forced to hire dozens more teachers to teach English to the more than 500 illegal alien children who have been relocated there.
“It’s a very significant cost to the Louisiana taxpayer, and that’s just education,” Vitter told the Washington Free Beacon on Thursday. “We have plenty of other categories that are impacted, like health care, emergency room and other health care, and other benefits. That’s just public education.”

ISIS bans math, social studies and sports in schools parts of war-torn Syria under their control...
How can anyone support these morons?
Dubai: Thousands of children in swaths of war-torn Syria, now controlled by dreaded Islamic State militants, can no longer study math or social studies under new diktats issued by the jihadists.
While sports is banned, the children will not be allowed to learn about elections and democracy.
Instead, the children will be subjected to the teachings of the radical Islamist group. And any teacher who dares to break the rules "will be punished."
ISIS announced its new educational demands in fliers posted on billboards and on street poles, CNN reported.

Indoctrination: Connecticut school blocks GOP and conservative websites, but not liberal ones...
Your kids aren't getting an education, they are getting a liberal indoctrination...
Via Fox CT:
A Woodbury High Schooler claims he uncovered political bias in the implementation of a firewall blocking some political Web sites at his school.
18-year-old Andrew Lampart, a senior at Nonnewaug High School, said he made the discovery when he was doing research for a classroom debate on gun control in May. Lampart said he first noticed that he could not get on the web site for the National Rifle Association.
“So, I went over to the other side. And I went over on sites such as Moms Demand Action or Newtown Action Alliance and I could get on these Web sites but not the others,” Lampart said.
Lampart investigated further, by broadening his search terms to Connecticut’s political parties.
“I immediately found out that the State Democrat web site was unblocked but the State GOP web site was blocked.”
Lampart even looked at Web sites focusing on abortion issues and religion. He found that “right-to-life” groups were blocked by the public school firewall but that Planned Parenthood and Pro-Choice America were not. He also tried to get on web sites such as Christianity.com and the Vatican’s web site but both were blocked. Islam-guide.com he found, was not.

Kindergartener brings tiny (2 inch) LEGO gun on school bus, gets detention...
As crazy as many school districts are, he is lucky he wasn't tased and hauled off to jail...
Via The Daily Mail:
Via The Daily Mail:
A 6-year-old kindergartner sparked an uproar at his Massachusetts school when he was spotted brandishing a tiny plastic Lego gun on the school bus last week.
Mieke Crane, the child's mother, insists that officials at Old Mill Pond Elementary School in Palmer overreacted when another student saw the toy, which is slightly bigger than a quarter, and alerted the driver Friday.
'She [driver] said he caused quite a disturbance on the bus and that the children were traumatized,' Crane told the local station WGGB.
In the aftermath of the incident, the school sent a letter home to parents explaining what happened and stressing that there was no actual firearm aboard the bus, and that the students were never in any danger.
The missive was accompanied by a photo of the black toy gun showing its actual diminutive size.
Crane's son has been forced to write a letter of apology to the bus driver. He was also given detention Tuesday and could be temporary stripped off his busing privileges.

10-year-old California boy was suspended from school for taking tiny Swiss Army knife on camping trip...

Via Todd Starnes:
Via Todd Starnes:
A 10-year-old California boy was suspended and threatened with expulsion after he brought a Swiss Army Knife on a week-long school school camping trip.
Tony Bandermann told Fox News that his son Braden was on a science camping trip with his class at Garden Gate Elementary School in Cupertino, Calif.
According to a school incident report, the boy showed the small knife to other students who then reported him to teachers. The incident report stated that law enforcement was also notified. However, no charges were filed.
Bandermann, who was out-of-town on a business trip, said he received a telephone call from the school’s principal informing him that his son had violated the school’s weapons policy. The punishment, she told him, must be immediate and severe.

Mass. teachers spots neon water pistol; school calls cops...
Is everyone in public education insane?
Via Malden Patch:
A teacher’s report of a gun sighting on the Malden High School campus prompted a quick police response Monday afternoon, though officers ultimately recovered only a “neon-colored” water gunat the scene.
While just a toy, fake guns are prohibited on-campus and can prompt a serious police response.
“A teacher reported hearing a clicking motion, and thought a student may have had a gun,” DeRuosi said when reached by phone Monday. “(Police) then found a water gun in the general vicinity.”
DeRuosi said new surveillance cameras installed as part of the school’s renovations last year will help identify the student who brought the toy to campus.
He added that administrators “have an idea of who the student may be.”
“You can’t take any of that stuff lightly today,” DeRuosi said.

Heroes: South Dakota becomes first state to allow arming of school employees...
South Dakota schools are no longer a soft target. Psychos take notice...
Teachers are now allowed to bring guns into the classroom in South Dakota.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard signed House Bill 1087 into law Friday, enabling state school boards to "supervise the arming of school employees" or hire security personnel.
As The New York Times notes, South Dakota is believed to be the first U.S. state to sign such legislation into law.
Rep. Scott Craig (R-Rapid City) and Rep. Betty Olson (R-Prairie City) drafted South Dakota's armed teachers legislation following the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In December, Olson told the Black Hills Pioneer that she "believes arming school personnel could have mitigated the Newtown massacre."
The legislation passed the state's House with a 42-17 vote in January and was approved by state senators, 21-14, last week.

ABC-7.com WZVN News for Fort Myers, Cape CoralA Florida high school student wrestled a loaded gun away from another teen on the bus ride home this week and was slapped with a suspension in return. The 16-year-old Cypress Lake High student in Fort Myers, Fla. told WFTX-TV there was “no doubt” he saved a life after grappling for the loaded .22 caliber revolver being aimed point-blank at another student on Tuesday.“I think he was really going to shoot him right then and there,” said the suspended student, not identified by WFTX because of safety concerns. “Not taking no pity.”The student said the suspect, a football player, threatened to shoot a teammate because he had been arguing with his friend.Authorities confirmed to WFTX the weapon was indeed loaded, and the arrest report stated the suspect, identified by WVZN-TV as Quadryle Davis, was “pointing the gun directly” at the other student and “threatening to shoot him.”[...]The school’s referral slip said he was given an “emergency suspension” for being involved in an “incident” with a weapon. Lee County School District spokesman Alberto Rodriguez said in a statement that “If there is a potentially dangerous situation, Florida law allows the principal to suspend a student immediately pending a hearing.”

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to send his posse to guard schools...
Yes. They will be armed....
PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Thursday that he plans to deploy his armed volunteer posse to protect Valley schools from the kind of violence that happened in the Connecticut shooting tragedy. Arpaio believes having armed law officers around schools will deter would-be criminals from trying anything violent and, possibly, stop them if they do.
“I have the authority to mobilize private citizens and fight crime in this county,” Arpaio said.
Arpaio first started using his posse to protect malls during the holiday shopping season in 1993 in response to violent incidents in prior years. Since then he said malls where his posse members are on patrol have had zero violent re-occurrences and patrols by his all-volunteer squad during the 2012 shopping season netted a record 31 arrests.
Arpaio said since the program has worked so well in malls he believes it will work just as well protecting schools.
“We’re not talking about placing the posse in the schools right now but in the outlying — the perimeters of the school — to detect any criminal activity.”

Feds put the food back into school lunches...
Michelle Obama hardest hit...
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Agriculture Department is responding to criticism over new school lunch rules by allowing more grains and meat in kids' meals.Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told members of Congress in a letter Friday that the department will do away with daily and weekly limits of meats and grains. Several lawmakers wrote the department after the new rules went into effect in September saying kids aren't getting enough to eat.
School administrators also complained, saying set maximums on grains and meats are too limiting as they try to plan daily meals."This flexibility is being provided to allow more time for the development of products that fit within the new standards while granting schools additional weekly menu planning options to help ensure that children receive a wholesome, nutritious meal every day of the week," Vilsack said in a letter to Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D.

Old Obama Jobs Metric: “saved or created.” New Obama Jobs Metric: “supported.”
President Obama is claiming his jobs bill will create save support 400,000 teacher's union jobs.

The strongest factors in increased math and science scoring by students was lack of strong teachers' unions involvement and strong competition from the private-school sector.

If President Obama really was concerned about education in America, he would ban teachers unions and institute school vouchers to increase competition. Sadly, President Obama is mainly concerned with saving the teachers, unions that are actually destroying education in America.

The White House plays on the old idea that fewer teachers will cause increased class sizes and students learning less. That does not have to be true. Class size and money spent are not the driving factors behind improved student test scores. In Great Britain, they have found larger class sizes can lead to students learning more. Also, increased education spending does not necessarily equal better student scores. The American Jobs Act Could Prevent Hundreds of Thousands of Layoffs,
and Allow Schools to Rehire Thousands More:• Nearly 300,000 Educator Jobs Have Been Lost Since 2008, 54 Percent of all Job Losses in Local Government: Local governments shed nearly 300,000 education jobs between August 2008 and August 2011. By another measure, employment of teachers fell by 7.2 percent between 2007-08 and 2010-11.
• Local Governments Have Lost Nearly 200,000 Education Jobs Over the Past Year: Over just the past 12 months, local government education employment has fallen by 194,000 jobs.
• State and Local Funding Cuts Put As Many as 280,000 Teacher Jobs At Risk Next Year: In the four largest states, budget reductions threaten teacher jobs and key funding for schools. In New York City alone, nearly 780 employees were expected to lose their jobs by October. In California, budget triggers may
shorten the school year. And in Texas and Florida, tens of thousands of teachers could be laid off.
• The American Jobs Act Will Support Nearly 400,000 Education Jobs—Preventing Layoffs and Allowing Thousands More to Be Hired or Rehired: The President’s plan will more than offset projected layoffs, providing support for nearly 400,000 education jobs— enough for states to avoid harmful layoffs and rehire tens of thousands of teachers who lost their jobs over the past three years.

Little Johnny can't read unless it is test day in Atlanta
This is a truly shameful story about cheating by 178 teachers and principals at dozens of Atlanta schools. In order to have a scandal this large, the leadership of Atlanta's school system must be rotten to the core. I am sure Atlanta has some very honest and outstanding teachers. However, their reputation has been seriously tarnished by the actions of their coworkers. Look for the NEA to launch a defense of the cheating teachers and principals.
(Time)- At least 178 teachers and principals at nearly four dozen schools in Atlanta have been implicated in what is likely the largest cheating scandal in U.S. history to date.It was reported back in January that whistle-blowing teachers who reported the cheating became targets of an investigation.
The report found that teachers, principals and administrators were both helping students on the state's standardized test, the Criterion-Reference Competency Test, and correcting incorrect answers after students had turned the tests in. Eighty-two educators confessed to the allegations detailed in the report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
Calling it a "dark day" for Atlanta Public Schools, Mayor Kasim Reed said the yearlong investigation "confirms our worst fears ...

School Discipline Improves in Texas School After Paddling is Revived

There are scientific studies that claim corporal punishment makes children more aggressive. Of course, Climategate has taught us liberal politics can heavily influence the outcome of scientific studies. Outside of the academic ivory towers, real people have found spanking can improve the behavior of children.
Texas city revives paddling...
But even by Texas standards, Temple is unusual. The city, a compact railroad hub of 60,000 people, banned the practice and then revived it at the demand of parents who longed for the orderly schools of yesteryear. Without paddling, "there were no consequences for kids," said Steve Wright, who runs a construction business and is Temple's school board president.
Since paddling was brought back to the city's 14 schools by a unanimous board vote in May, behavior at Temple's single high school has changed dramatically, Wright said, even though only one student in the school system has been paddled.
