Former NAACP Leader on Obama: "Take away this president’s skin color and take away the race card that is played so often with this president and there’s really no reason for black people to vote for him"

What he said...

Via Newsbusters:
REVEREND C.L. BRYANT: By telling the truth about who they’ve been historically. That has been distorted. The truth of the matter is this – and Mr. Reed did in fact say well, the president did well through the south – but the truth of the matter is this: take away this president’s skin color and take away the race card that is played so often with this president and there’s really no reason for black people to vote for him or Latinos in that frame as well, because when you look at the unemployment rate among those two demographics, when you look at the poverty rate among young white females, there is no reason for anybody to have re-elected this president in those demographics except for the emotional issue of race.

Obama prepares to payback his black supporters...

Obama phones for all?
President Obama: Identifying priorities for a second-term ‘black agenda’ — Washington Post
While President Obama has been a unifying force in the black community during his first term in office, his presidency has also fueleddeep divisions among many African Americans. The president’s first-term policies sparked heated debates among a host of well-known black intellectuals and political observers who argue that the president has ignored the issues of his most loyal base.
These tensions will likely remain throughout Obama’s second term unless he quickly reverses course.
Critics, such as Cornel West and Tavis Smiley, will likely continue to press Obama to address the needs of black America, while others will struggle to determine how to best capitalize on Obama’s second term and get him to push forward a “black agenda.”
But what should this “payback” look like? Unlike other interest groups, such as gays and Hispanics, who responded positively to symbolic gestures from the president, African Americans appear as if they cannot come to an agreement on what a priority list should be. The community seems to lack a unifying issue that Obama could address. And we seem to also lack a clear strategy for implementing what those community-friendly policies might be.

Report: Some black clergy are telling their flocks to stay home on Election Day

The traditional black church does not support Barack Obama's position on gay marriage.

Via Newsmax:
Some black clergy see no good presidential choice between a Mormon candidate and one who supports gay marriage, so they are telling their flocks to stay home on Election Day. That’s a worrisome message for the nation’s first African-American president, who can’t afford to lose any voters from his base in a tight race.
The pastors say their congregants are asking how a true Christian could back same-sex marriage, as President Barack Obama did in May. As for Republican Mitt Romney, the first Mormon nominee from a major party, congregants are questioning the theology of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its former ban on men of African descent in the priesthood.
“When President Obama made the public statement on gay marriage, I think it put a question in our minds as to what direction he’s taking the nation,” said the Rev. A.R. Bernard, founder of the predominantly African-American Christian Cultural Center in New York. Bernard, whose endorsement is much sought-after in New York and beyond, voted for Obama in 2008. He said he’s unsure how he’ll vote this year. ...

President Barack Obama’s approval rating back to its all-time low among blacks

Only 80% of Black Americans approve of the job President Obama is doing.
(CNS News) — President Barack Obama’s approval rating has fallen back to its all-time low among blacks, dropping below 80 percent for only the second time in his presidency, according to Gallup.
In the week of Jan. 16–22, 2012 — a period that began with the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day — Obama’s approval among blacks dropped 8 points, from 87 percent to 79 percent. The president’s approval among blacks had previously dropped as low as 79 percent in the week of Oct. 10–16, 2011, according to Gallup.
Obama’s highest approval among blacks was 96 percent, a level he achieved in five different weeks of 2009.

Obama has a 44 page agenda for black America

President Obama has released a 44 page agenda for black America. He has a message for white America too. See the above picture.
Stung by summertime allegations that they neglected their bedrock African-American constituency, the White House and President Barack Obama’s reelection team have cranked up their outreach to black voters, selling the president’s first-term achievements as accomplishments that will pay long-term dividends for the black community.
Top administration aides and Cabinet officials have fanned out to black communities, touting those accomplishments — including health care reform, unemployment insurance extensions, public-education overhauls and programs encouraging minority entrepreneurship — and last month, they hosted a summit on African-American issues.
As part of making its case, the White House prepared a 44-page report summarizing the president’s agenda for black America and has launched an electronic newsletter aimed at black lawmakers and staff in Congress, along with a companion link on the White House Web page.
“We’ve been working so hard on our accomplishments,” senior adviser Valerie Jarrett told POLITICO in an interview last week. “Now is the time to tell our story.”

Gallop: Obama hits new low in approval among blacks

Gallop has found a new low in approval among blacks of only 80% for President Obama. The old low was 81% in the middle of last month. Black unemployment is at the highest rate since 1984. That was 27 years ago. How can 80% of blacks still support this disaster of a president?
(CNSNews.com) — Gallup released new polling data today that showed African American presidential candidate Herman Cain’s support was surging among Republicans even as President Barack Obama’s job approval hit an all-time low among blacks.
In a poll of 1,064 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents conducted Oct. 3–7, 18 percent said they supported Cain for president. That put the former Godfathers Pizza CEO in a close second behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who placed first with 20 percent.
Meanwhile, only 80 percent of blacks told Gallup in the week that ended on Oct. 9 that they approved of the way Obama was handling his job as president. Previously, Obama’s lowest approval among blacks had been the 81 percent he had received in the weeks that ended on March 6 and August 14 of this year.
Obama’s highest all-time approval among blacks was 96 percent — a level it reached during five different weeks of 2009, Obama’s first year in office.

The Obama Presidency Has Been Devastating For Black Americans

The numbers are horrifying.

Sun-Times reported: (emphasis is mine)

Since the end of the recession, which lasted from 2007 to 2009, the overall unemployment rate has fallen from 9.4 to 9.1 percent, while the black unemployment rate has risen from 14.7 to 16.2 percent, according to the Department of Labor. Last April, black male unemployment hit the highest rate since the government began keeping track in 1972. Only 56.9 percent of black men over 20 were working, compared with 68.1 percent of white men.
Even college-educated blacks fared worse than their white counterparts in the recession. In 2007, unemployment for college-educated whites was 1.8 percent; for college-educated blacks it was 2.7 percent. Now, the college-educated unemployment rate is 3.9 percent for whites and 7 percent for blacks.
Nearly 8 percent of African Americans who bought homes from 2005 to 2008 have lost them to foreclosure, compared with 4.5 percent of whites, according to an estimate by the Center for Responsible Lending.

Since 95% of black voters voted for President Obama in 2008, I am tempted to say black Americans are getting their just reward, but I hate to see any family have to struggle under these devastating economic conditions. Jesse Washington of the Sun-Times found it ironic the first black president was overseeing the destruction of the black middle class.
Some see a bitter irony in soaring black unemployment and the decline of the black middle class on the watch of the first black president.
I see it in a different light. It is true Obama's color motivated the black base of the Democratic Party and even a few black Republican leaning voters (shame on you) pulled Obama's lever for historic reasons. The truth is a white Democratic candidate would have gotten 90 plus percent of the black vote in 2008, even if Obama hadn't been on the ticket. Black voters have become an almost wholly owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party. Based on history, this is hard to understand. Republicans ended slavery and southern Democrats were the primary opponents of civil rights for blacks in the 1960s. Black voters are ignoring history. I would postulate this is because they benefit more from social programs than the general population and Democrats are certainly the party of more social programs. Unfortunately for Democrats and their supporters, the money has run out. President Obama's attempt to spend our way out of the recession has practically bankrupted us. Government spending can't end this recession. Only businesses and consumers can accomplish that goal. Consumers can't boost spending because energy prices and unemployment are too high. Business won't because President Obama is the most anti-business President in the history of our country. If President Obama really wanted to help black Americans, he would resign. It is time for Obama to "Take one for the team".
