Heartache: Obama May Be Losing His Base

Fed up liberals are unsubscribing from Organizing For America (OFA). The left is melting down.
I think the last email I got from OFA asked us to support the president's decision to freeze federal worker's pay.

A pattern has begun to emerge: the OFA list (which was never shared with any of our imperiled Congressional candidates last cycle) is being used to rally support for the president's conservative decisions.

That's not what I signed up for.

So I unsubscribed.

Anti-Incumbent Fever Strikes Again

Anti-incumbent fever has stricken West Virginia Democratic Rep. Alan B. Mollohan, chairman of a House Appropriations subcommittee. He has lost his bid to represent Democrats in this Fall's West Virginia 1st Congressional District race. Rep. Mollohan didn't even have a primary challenger last year.
Longtime West Virginia Democratic Rep. Alan B. Mollohan on Tuesday became the latest casualty of the nation's anti-incumbent fever, losing to state Sen. Mike Oliverio in the state's 1st Congressional District primary in the most closely watched race as three states held primary contests Tuesday.

"Everybody's excited, especially about the decisiveness of this win" Oliverio campaign manager Curtis Wilkerson said at the victory party. "We've fulfilled a mandate with the Democratic party."

Why did Rep. Mollohan lose? Reportedly, voters were angry over his support of bailouts and health care reform.
The 66-year-old Mr. Mollohan, who succeeded his father in the seat, came under criticism this election cycle for lingering ethics issues and voting in favor of the 2008 economic bailout and President Obama's health care overhaul bill, which cost him the support ofpro-lifegroups concerned about increased federal funding for abortion.

Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, an anti-abortion activist who campaigned against the incumbent, said his health care vote had cost him his job.

"Congressman Mollohan now fully realizes that votes do have consequences. Mollohans loss comes as a direct result of his vote for health care reform that included federal funding of abortion," she said Tuesday night.

The latest Zogby interactive poll has President Obama taking a big hit in support from his key constituents. He has lost 13 points among Democrats in a little over one month. Zogby has Obama's overall approval at only 42%.

Zogby reported:
The latest Zogby Interactive poll of 4,518 likely voters conducted from August 28-31 found 48% disapprove and 42% approve of the job Obama is doing. The poll found 75% of Democrats approve of Obama's performance, a drop of 13 points among Democrats from an interactive poll done July 21-24 of this year. That same poll found 48% of all likely voters approving of Obama's job performance, and 49% disapproving.

Letterman loses sponsor over 'insulting' Palin joke

Now, we know the real reason Davide Letterman finally made an actual apology to Sarah Palin and her daughters. He is losing sponsors. First, Embassy Suites canceled their advertising, Now, Olive garden is pulling their ads.
The Politico reported:

Following a week of back and forth between CBS late night comic David Letterman and Sarah Palin over a crude joke he told about the Alaska Republican governor’s daughter, the Olive Garden restaurant says it is cancelling all of its scheduled ads on Letterman’s “Late Show” for the rest of the year.

In an email to a Letterman critic obtained by POLITICO, a spokeswoman for the Italian restaurant chain wrote that “there will be no more Olive Garden ads scheduled for ‘The Late Show’ with David Letterman in this year's broadcast schedule,” citing the talk show host’s “inappropriate comments.”

“We apologize that Mr. Letterman’s mistake, which was not consistent with our standards and values, left you with a bad impression of Olive Garden,” wrote Sherri Bruen, the company’s guest relations manager.

Bruen said the company “screens network television programs whenever possible,” but explained that “telecasts, such as ‘The Late Show’ with David Letterman, are taped on a daily basis, preventing advertisers from reviewing the content prior to airing.”

A spokesman for the company confirmed Thursday that for now it has cancelled all its remaining scheduled ads on the CBS program for the rest of the year.
