In the closest race for president in Michigan's history, Republican Donald Trump is hanging on to a 10,704 vote win over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The Michigan Secretary of State posted results Wednesday that were submitted by the state's 83 county clerks on Tuesday after the votes were reviewed and certified by each county.
Before that compiled count, Trump held a 13,107 lead over Clinton. But after each county certified its results, the lead shrunk to 10,704, with the biggest chunk coming from Wayne County, which showed that Clinton had gotten 565 more votes than originally tallied by the county.

A homework assignment that asked Michigan high school students to figure out who fathered a fictitious baby outraged one father so much that he sent the worksheet back with the note: “We teach our children not to sleep around.”
Students in a ninth-grade biology class at Romeo High School were given a homework assignment on DNA that included a question about a mother trying to determine “who the father of her baby was,” according to WDIV-TV.
The assignment said:
“The sister of the mom above also had issues with finding out who the father of her baby was. She had the state take a blood test of potential fathers. Based on the information in this table, why was the baby taken away by the state after the test?”
Possible answers in the multiple-choice question suggested the father could have been the cable guy, the mailman, the cab driver, the bartender or a guy she met at a club.

Victory: Michigan appeals court rules that the state’s right-to-work law applies to state employees

Taxpayers win one in Michigan...

LANSING, Mich. (AP) –  A divided Michigan appeals court ruled Thursday that the state’s right-to-work law applies to 35,000 state employees.
In the first major legal decision on the much-debated, Republican-backed law eight months after its passage, judges voted 2-1 to reject a lawsuit filed by labor unions. The passage of the measure drew thousands of protesters to the state Capitol late last year.
The law prohibits forcing public and private workers in Michigan to pay union dues or fees as a condition of employment, and applies to labor contracts extended or renewed after late March. It went to court after questions were raised whether it applies to state workers, since the Michigan Civil Service Commission, which sets compensation for state employees, has separate powers under the state constitution.
The majority said lawmakers have the authority to pass laws dealing with union fees.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has signed a right-to-work bill limiting union power into law in his state, he announced in a press conference on Tuesday evening.

"I view this as an opportunity to stand up for Michigan's workers—to be pro-worker," Snyder said.
"I don't view this as anti-union at all...I believe this is pro-worker."

Earlier on Tuesday the GOP controlled state house approved a law that would make the payment of union dues voluntary for private-sector unions and most public-sector unions (police and firefighters would be exempt.) The bill was approved by a vote of 58-51.

LANSING — Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s strong performance in his first debate with President Barack Obama helped him trim Obama’s lead in Michigan to three percentage points, a poll released today to the Free Press shows.

Obama’s 10 percentage point lead (47%-37%) in a poll conducted last month by EPIC-MRA of Lansing dropped to 3 points (48% to 45%), according to the poll of 600 likely voters conducted by EPIC-MRA of Lansing. The gap between Romney and Obama was within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Undecided voters shrank from the September survey’s 16% to just 7%

New Poll: Romney powers ahead in Michigan...

Could it be true? A Foster McCollum White Baydoun poll has Romney beating Obama 47 to 43 percent in Michigan.

The poll, produced by Foster McCollum White Baydoun, showed Romney leading Obama in Michigan by 47 to 43 percent, which is just outside the poll’s 2.35 percent margin of error.

Paul Ryan was said to make Michigan voters more likely to vote for Romney by an 8 percent margin.  Ryan’s budget proposals, which are not quite the same as Romney’s campaign proposals but remain a topic of intense interest, were viewed positively by a plurality of 48 percent.

Eric Foster, president of Foster McCollum White & Associates, said that “Romney has identified a clear game changer if his strategy is to divide the Midwest and blow a bugle in President Obama’s Midwestern Strategy.”  It was not clear from his statement if “blow a bugle” is a metaphor commonly employed by Michigan pollsters, or if Foster made it up especially for this occasion.

Is the central part of the country cratering for Obama? This poll has Romney closing the gap in Cook County Illinois! 

Michigan Unions Try to Pass Constitutional Amendment to Prevent 'Right to Work' Laws

Strangely, they have  named the amendment the “Protect Our Jobs Act.” If they had called it the "Destroy Michigan's Economy Act," that would be closer to the truth."

The union-backed ballot proposal would make collective bargaining a constitutionally protected right and cripple efforts to pass so-called “right to work” legislation in the state. Critics say the measure, which would cover private as well as public employees, would be a “death warrant” for Michigan’s economy because it would discourage businesses from bringing new jobs to Michigan and encourage some already in the state to leave.

But the Mackinac Center and other critics, including the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, say the amendment – which supporters call the “Protect Our Jobs Act” – would be a more sweeping measure.

They claim it would allow public-sector unions to use contract negotiations to override acts of the legislature, such as laws limiting how much taxpayers pay for government employee healthcare.

“It is extremely radical and would fundamentally change the power structure in Michigan,” Vernuccio said.

President Obama and Mitt Romney are statistically tied in Michigan, according to a poll from Mitchell Research released on Thursday.

Obama leads Romney 47 percent to 46 in the poll, which has a 3.5 percent margin of error. It’s the fourth poll in June to show the candidates neck and neck in the Wolverine State, which has swung reliably Democratic in recent elections and where Obama was up by double digits as recently as mid-May.

(The Hill) — Mitt Romney has caught President Obama in Michigan, according to a poll released Thursday.

Obama still holds a slight edge in the poll, 46.9 to 45.5, but that’s within the survey’s 2.3 percent margin of error. The poll was conducted by Michigan-based political consultants Foster, McCollum, White & Associates.

It’s the second straight poll to show Obama and Romney in a dead heat in the Wolverine State. Romney held a 1-point advantage in an EPIC-MRA poll released last week.

Obama once had a commanding lead over Romney in Michigan, up by double digits as recently as mid-May, according to the Real Clear Politics average of polls. . . .

PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) — Two former leaders of the Oakland County Democratic Party are facing a total of nine felonies for allegedly forging election paperwork to get fake Tea Party candidates on November’s ballot.

“It is not a partisan statement, and we need to make that very clear,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper.

Former Oakland County Democratic Chair Mike McGuinness and former Democratic Operations Director Jason Bauer face up to 14 years in prison if convicted.

The Democrats dirty efforts appear to have been statewide. The investigation is still ongoing and includes 23 races. Stay tuned for possible conspiracy charges.

Many Standish Residents Don't Want Gitmo Terrorists In Their Town

Although Standish, Michigan is a town on the edge of bankruptcy, many residents are opposing the bid by their local leaders to use a mostly closed local prison to house terrorists from Guantanamo Bay.

A sign jutting from an open patch of ground is the first clue to the business of Standish: "Prison area. Do not pick up hitchhikers."

Further along the road into the small, isolated Michigan town, a 16ft-high chain link fence topped with razor wire glistens...

"No Gitmo" say their signs.
