NY Times' David Brooks claims Obama has "a kind of ESPN masculinity"

If Obama is the new masculinity, In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks.

 Via the New York Times:
[T]he key is his post-boomer leadership style. Critics are always saying that Obama is too cool and detached, arrogant and aloof. But the secret to his popularity through hard times is that he is not melodramatic, sensitive, vulnerable and changeable. Instead, he is self-disciplined, traditional and a bit formal. He is willing, with drones and other mechanisms, to use lethal force.
Normally, presidents look weak during periods of economic stagnation, overwhelmed by events. But Obama has displayed a kind of ESPN masculinity: postfeminist in his values, but also thoroughly traditional in style — hypercompetitive, restrained, not given to self-doubt, rarely self-indulgent. Administrations are undone by scandal and moments when they look pathetic, but this administration, guarded in all things, has rarely had those moments.
Rush got it right when he called Obama a "girly-man."

Obvious: Charlie Cook calls Obama a Metrosexual

I remember when men like Obama were called pansies or worse?
“Small towns — states with a large small town rural populations, Democrats in general, the president has had a really hard time. I mean, we have kind of a metrosexual president. . . that doesn’t go over well in the small town. And it’s just cultural. It is what it is.” — Charlie Cook

President Obama declares himself a "warrior for the middle class"

President Obama is closer to a "metrosexual" than a warrior.

(Palm Beach Post) — President Obama visited Orlando late today to collect campaign cash and tout his doomed $447 billion jobs bill while sipping beer with four unemployed construction workers.

Slumping in the polls and facing roadblocks on Capitol Hill, where his job bill stalled in the Senate later in the evening, Obama urged about 400 supporters at a downtown Sheraton hotel to summon “that same sense of urgency we had in 2008. Let’s meet this moment.”

Obama proclaimed himself a “warrior for the middle class” in his remarks at the Sheraton, where attendees paid between $44 and $250 to see the president.

He told the crowd that America is a nation of “rugged indivualists.” But, he added, “there’s always been this other thread in our history that says we’re all connected, we’re in this together. There are some things we can only do together as a nation.” Keep on reading...

Good News For Metrosexual Men

There is good news for men who shave more than their face, own 20 pairs of shoes and see a hair stylist. Birth control pills may make you more attractive to women.

(WSJ)- The type of man a woman is drawn to is known to change during her monthly cycle—when a woman is fertile, for instance, she might look for a man with more masculine features. Taking the pill or another type of hormonal contraceptive upends this natural dynamic, making less-masculine men seem more attractive, according to a small but growing body of evidence. The findings have led researchers to wonder about the implications for partner choice, relationship quality and even the health of the children produced by these partnerships.
