Amusing: Top Solyndra Figure runs for door at DNC after being spotted by ABC News cameras

I wonder why the DNC doesn't want to be associated with Solyndra?

Via ABC News:
The Obama campaign rolled out the red carpet this week for a former top Energy Department official who was at the center of the ill-fated government loan to Solyndra, a California solar panel firm that wound up in bankruptcy.

Steven J. Spinner joined other top fundraisers for a VIP tour of the Democratic National Convention floor in Charlotte Monday evening, posing and waving for a photographer while standing behind the podium. When he saw ABC News cameras, however, he ran for the exit.

It was Rahm Emanuel's Idea Obama Pumped Solyndra

Rahm Emanuel has claimed he had never heard of Solyndra.

Via Free Beacon:

Chicago mayor and former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel repeatedly claimed he had no memory of the Obama administration’s controversial $535 million loan to failed solar company Solyndra, but White House emails released Thursday say it was Emanuel’s idea for the administration to tout the doomed firm.

In a batch of White House emails released in a report on Solyndra by the House Energy and Commerce Committee Thursday, White House aide Aditya Kumar wrote to Jacob Levine of the Office of Energy and Climate Change: “Feels like Rahm wants this too (barring any concerns) — POTUS involvement was Rahm’s idea.”

However, speaking to Chicago radio station WLS 890AM at a news conference in September, 2011, Emanuel said he did not remember anything about the failed investment loan by the Department of Energy, which critics say was fast-tracked to fit the White House’s political agenda.

Key Solyndra Players Reward Obama With Large Campaign Donations

What do you get for giving a half a billion dollars in green money to a company headed to bankruptcy? You get a lot of campaign cash if your name is Barack Obama.
US President Barack Obama shook hands with some of his wealthiest supporters Tuesday night at a fundraising shindig in San Francisco. Also on hand, though, was a matter the commander-in-chief just can’t seem to shake: his failed deal with Solyndra.

Around sixty patrons paid $35,800 a piece to attend a party in honor of President Obama this week, including a pair of gentlemen who have become central figures in an energy debacle that has haunted the Oval Office since last year. Among those in attendance were two key players in the Solyndra scandal.

President Obama touted Solyndra, a California solar-panel start-up, as an example of perfect American entrepreneurship early on in his presidency. Last year, however, the infant green energy company filed for bankruptcy, despite the president earlier approving a gigantic loan guarantee worth $535 million for the Silicon Valley start-up. The company had borrowed all but $8 million of the massive loan before calling it quits late last year, a move that prompted Obama’s opponents to ridicule the president over what some said was “a dubious investment” and even initiated an investigated by the FBI.

Shocking: MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan Refuses To Allow Guests Talk About Solyndra (Video)

There is no doubt Obama's lapdogs would like to never hear the Solyndra name again.

MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan:
“Alright, let’s just stop it,” MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan said to his panel while they were arguing about the failed solar energy company Solyndra. “Stop it. If you want to argue about roads and Solyndra, do it on another TV show. Seriously. I have so much limited amount of time to be here and there are so many other things that I’d rather talk about. I don’t care about those things.”

Chutzpah: Obama Complains About “Huge Reckless Bets Made With Other People’s Money ...”

I have one word for President Obama. Solyndra.

Via White House:
[I]t was a period when insurance companies and mortgage lenders and financial institutions didn’t have to abide by strong enough regulations, or they found their ways around them.  And what was the result?  Profits for many of these companies soared. But so did people’s health insurance premiums.  Patients were routinely denied care, often when they needed it most.  Families were enticed, and sometimes just plain tricked, into buying homes they couldn’t afford. Huge, reckless bets were made with other people’s money on the line.

It's Friday! Time for another WH Solyndra document dump!

This tactic only works because the mainstream media are Obama lapdogs.

Via The Hill:
Several key White House offices were involved with the Obama administration’s messaging plans and other preparations as the collapse of the taxpayer-backed solar company Solyndra was imminent, newly released documents show.

The latest White House documents delivered to House Republicans on Friday again highlight the extent to which senior administration officials braced for the fallout as Solyndra – a company President Obama had personally visited – was about to go under.

A White House memo that noted the danger of “imminent bankruptcy” at the end of August 2011 says, “OMB, DPC and NEC have been working with press and OLA to be prepared for this news to break.” Keep on reading...

Now and Then: Obama Takes Credit, Then Shifts Blame on Solyndra (Video)

The sad part of this isn't that Obama is a mind-exploding hypocrite. He is. The sad part is the mainstream media, in their desire to see Obama re-elected, have abandoned journalism and won't call him on it.

CBS News Video: 11 More Solyndras In Obama Energy Program

The Obama administration has poured billions of your tax dollars down the green energy hole. The Obama administration was making green energy investments that were rated worse than junk bonds.

Team Obama throws another $14.3 million down the Solyndra rat hole

Hey, it's not like it's real money or anything.
(IBD) — The Labor Department today announced that it had approved Trade Adjustment Assistance for the former employees of the bankrupt solar panel maker Solyndra.

That means all of the firm’s 1,100 ex-employees are eligible for federal aid packages, including job retraining and income assistance. The department has valued packages at about $13,000 a head.

Taxpayers will have to cough up yet another $14.3 million as a result of Solyndra’s bankruptcy. They are already on the hook for $528 million in federal loan guarantees to the company that are unlikely to ever be paid back.

Green Politics: Solyndra was asked to delay layoffs until after 2010 Midterm Election

On his August bus tour, Obama accused Republicans of playing politics with the economy.
"people are sick and tired of the nonsense of political gain"

Pot, meet kettle at the 1:30 mark of the video.

Washington (CNN) -- The Department of Energy last year urged struggling solar energy company Solyndra to delay announcing planned layoffs until after the November 2010 elections, according to a report made public Tuesday by Republican congressional investigators.

Solyndra, which had received $535 million in federal loan guarantees in 2009, later declared bankruptcy...

During discussions on October 30, 2010, between advisers for Argonaut Private Equity -- a major Solyndra investor founded by Obama fundraiser George Kaiser -- and the Department of Energy, department officials "did push very hard" for Solyndra to "hold our announcement of the consolidation to employees and vendors to November 3," the memorandum said.

"Oddly, they didn't give a reason for that date," the Argonaut advisers added, according to the memorandum. Keep on reading...

White House Stonewalls Solyndra Document Request

You had to know this was coming.
(Fox News) — The White House on Friday all but refused to turn over the documents House Republicans have subpoenaed on bankrupt solar firm Solyndra, firing off a letter saying the request would put an “unreasonable burden on the president’s ability to meet his constitutional duties.”

The feisty response appears to set up a clash between congressional investigators and the White House over the sprawling probe into Solyndra’s finances and the administration’s involvement in the decision to provide the struggling company a $528 million loan with taxpayer money.

White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler, in her letter, scolded GOP lawmakers for demanding more documents, noting the Obama administration has already turned over 85,000 pages of documents in the course of their investigation. Without explicitly refusing to comply with the subpoena, Ruemmler repeatedly described the order as “overbroad.”

“The Committee’s extremely broad request for documents — now a subpoena — is a significant intrusion on Executive Branch interests,” she wrote, saying she can only conclude the subpoena was “driven more by partisan politics than a legitimate effort to conduct a responsible investigation.”

Cover up! WH Refuses to release Obama's Solyndra BlackBerry messages!

Only those who have something to cover up hide their messages.
(Politico) — President Barack Obama won’t be sharing his BlackBerry messages with House investigators seeking communications about Solyndra, the White House told Hill Republicans on Friday.
White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler told House Energy and Commerce Committee leaders that they should still be happy with the trove of Solyndra-related documents they’re getting from federal agencies including DOE, the Treasury Department and the Office of Management and Budget.
But Ruemmler said the investigators’ request for all internal White House communications about Solyndra — dating back to the first day of the Obama administration — “implicates long-standing and significant institutional Executive Branch confidentiality interests.”
“Encroaching upon these important interests is not necessary, however, because the agency documents the Committee has requested, which include communications with the White House, should satisfy the Committee’s stated objective — to ‘understand the involvement of the White House in the review of the Solyndra loan guarantee and the Administration’s support of this guarantee,’” Ruemmler added in her letter, to committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and oversight subcommittee Chairman Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.).
CNN reported on the White House rebuff Friday evening. POLITICO later obtained the letter from a government source.

If the waste of taxpayer money on Solyndra steamed you, wait until you hear about SunPower Corp.

SunPower Corp. got over twice the money Solyndra did in order to create 15 permanent jobs at an astounding cost of $80 million in taxpayer money for each job. Oh, and they are teetering in the edge of bankruptcy.
(Fox News) — With the Solyndra scandal still swirling, the Obama administration is under pressure to reveal the financial condition of the solar companies that received $4.75 billion in similar federal loan guarantees on the last day of the program.

Republican lawmakers on two House committees are seeking details about the loans given to First Solar, SunPower Corp. and ProLogis. Of those three companies, troubling financial revelations have emerged about SunPower, which received a $1.2 billion loan, more than twice the money approved for Solyndra, which filed for bankruptcy last month after receiving a $528 million loan.

The Energy Department says on its website that the $1.2 billion loan to help build the California Valley Solar Ranch in San Luis Obispo County, a project that will help create 15 permanent jobs, which adds up to the equivalent of $80 million in taxpayer money for each job.

In April, the Energy Department gave SunPower a conditional loan guarantee, even though the company was receiving financing in the capital markets. Shortly after the conditional guarantee, French energy giant Total bought a majority ownership in SunPower and extended a $1 billion credit line to the company.

But SunPower posted $150 million in losses during the first half of this year and its debt is nearly 80 percent higher than the market value of all its outstanding shares. The company is also facing class action lawsuits for misstating its earnings.

Senior Treasury Department official warned restructured Solyndra loan might be illegal

Ruh-Roh!
(E2 Wire) — House Republicans released an email Friday evening showing that a senior Treasury Department official in August expressed concern that the Energy Department’s early 2011 restructuring of the solar company Solyndra’s $535 million loan guarantee may have been illegal.

The restructuring put private investors, who were providing another $75 million to the struggling company, first in line for repayment if the company went under. In addition, House Republicans probing Solyndra — which collapsed several weeks ago — say DOE may have violated requirements to consult with Treasury on the revision of the loan agreement.

The Energy and Commerce Committee’s GOP leaders wrote to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner Friday seeking documents about Treasury’s communication with the White House, DOE and other agencies on the financing.

Obama has no regrets blowing a half a billion in taxpayer dollars on Solyndra

A half a billion dollars is nothing to a big spender like President Obama.
(CNN) — President Obama Monday said he does not regret a half-billion dollar government loan to the now-bankrupt solar energy company Solyndra and vigorously defended his administration’s policy of providing assistance to similar entities.
“No I don’t,” the president said when asked directly if he regretted the $535 billion federal loan guarantee in 2009. “Because if you look at the overall portfolio of loan guarantees that had been provided, overall it’s doing well. And what we always understood is that not every single business is going to succeed in clean energy.”

The Solar Giveaway Continues

President Obama dumps another $1 Billion into solar energyfrom the same fund that beget the disastrous Solyndra loan.
Facing a Friday deadline, the Energy Department has approved two loan guarantees worth more than $1billion for solar energy projects in Nevada and Arizona.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the department has completed a $737 million loan guarantee to Tonopah Solar Energy for a 110 megawatt solar tower in Nevada, and a $337 million guarantee for Mesquite Solar 1 to develop a 150 megawatt solar plant in Arizona.

The loans were approved under the same program that paid for a $535 million loan to Solyndra Inc., a now-bankrupt solar panel maker that has become a rallying cry for Republican critics of the Obama administration's green energy program.
