Report: Guess who is getting criminal corruption charges...

It's New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez, a Democrat.

Washington (CNN)The Justice Department is preparing to bring criminal corruption charges against New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez, a Democrat, alleging he used his Senate office to push the business interests of a Democratic donor and friend in exchange for gifts.

People briefed on the case say Attorney General Eric Holder has signed off on prosecutors' request to proceed with charges, CNN has learned exclusively. An announcement could come within weeks. Prosecutors are under pressure in part because of the statute of limitation on some of the allegations.

The case could pose a high-profile test of the Justice Department's ability to prosecute sitting lawmakers, having already spawned a legal battle over whether key evidence the government has gathered is protected by the Constitution's Speech and Debate clause.

Another Democrat is expected to be arrested for corruption...

Federal authorities are expected to arrest Sheldon Silver, the powerful speaker of the New York State Assembly, on corruption charges on Thursday, people with knowledge of the matter said, in a case that is likely to throw Albany into disarray.
The investigation that led to the expected charges against Mr. Silver, a Democrat from the Lower East Side of Manhattan who has served as speaker for more than two decades, began after Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in March abruptly shut down an anticorruption commission he had created in 2013.
Details of the specific charges to be brought against Mr. Silver were unclear on Wednesday night, but one of the people with knowledge of the matter said they stemmed from payments that Mr. Silver received from a small law firm that specializes in seeking reductions of New York City real estate taxes. Mr. Silver failed to list the payments from the firm, Goldberg & Iryami, on his annual financial disclosure filings, as required.

IRS illegally gave up to 2500 taxpayer documents to White House?

The IRS improperly turned over thousands of confidential tax documents to the White House for review, according to information obtained from a lawsuit filed against the U.S. Treasury Department’s inspector general by the legal advocacy firm Cause of Action, exposing a pipeline of communication between the two, the Daily Caller reports.
“[T]he Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) informed Cause of Action that there exist nearly 2,500 potentially responsive documents relating to investigations of improper disclosures of confidential taxpayer information by the IRS to the White House,” Cause of Action noted, according to the Daily Caller.
Such documentation, including the exchange of confidential information between White House policy adviser Jeanne Lambrew and former IRS official Lois Lerner, came to light after it was revealed that the the IRS had likely targeted conservative groups for review, including one that had sought in a 2012 lawsuit to overturn Obamacare’s contraceptive mandate, the Daily Caller noted.
The Justice Department has asked for a longer window under which to review the newly found documents before releasing them publicly, the Daily Caller said.
The Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard, in his “Secrets” column, called news of the leaked documents a “shocking revelation.”

Strange: Apparently, you can bribe an immigration officer with egg rolls

A U.S. immigration officer was sentenced on October 3, 2014 to two and a half years in federal prison, for accepting bribes in the form of cash and egg rolls from applicants seeking citizenship and green cards.
Mai Nhu Nguyen, 48, served with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Santa Ana for eight years. She pleaded guilty to receiving bribes as a public official between July 2011 and May 2013. As an immigration service officer, Nguyen had the authority to approve or deny immigration applications.
In one of the instances of bribery, Nguyen called a vendor to order 300 egg rolls. She then told an immigration applicant to pay for the $150 food order and deliver it to her workplace. Once the task was performed, Nguyen proceeded to approve the immigrant’s paperwork.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) improperly obtained donor lists from nonprofit groups as part of a “secret research project” being run by Lois Lerner and other officials.
IRS official David Fish revealed the “secret research project” in a June 27, 2012 email to Lerner’s direct subordinate Holly Paz, according to emails released Thursday by the nonprofit group Judicial Watch, which obtained the emails in a pending Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
“Joseph Urban [IRS Technical Advisor, Tax Exempt and Government Entities] had actually started a secret research project on whether we could, consistent with 6104, argue that [REDACTED],” Fish wrote.

Ukrainian military forces stopped and seized a vehicle carrying three armed men transporting guns, ammunition, and an estimated 100,000 ballots for a May 11 referendum already marked "yes" for the eastern city of Donetsk to break away and form an independent state, Kyiv Post reports.The men — which Ukrainian media have described as "armed terrorists" — were found with ballots in the trunk of their car on the outskirts of the city, a police source told the Ukraine Observer.Many cities in eastern Ukraine have been under siege for about a month, including Donetsk, where the city's main government building and a number of schools have been seized by pro-Russian separatists believed to be backed by Moscow.The new reports of fraudulent ballots brings to mind a similar incident in Crimea, the region recently annexed to Russia following a March 16 vote. A senior White House official told Reuters there was "concrete evidence" some of those ballots arrived to Crimean cities pre-marked.

The allegations against the three officials vary widely: bribery, bank fraud and trying to bring a gun onto a plane. On a video segment provided exclusively to The Daily Caller, the organizer says he and other SEIU staff “had to do some political work. We were required as staff to do that.”

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch is at it again. The Democrat who presided over a 2010 vote casting and counting scandal in the tight race for governor was caught on video Friday guaranteeing Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Christopher Murphy a big result in the state’s largest city–even if it takes days to count.

Bridgeport provided a crucial and dubious margin of victory to Democratic and Working Families Governor Dannel P. Malloy in 2010 amidst unprecedented chaos at the city’s polling places. The 2010 Bridgeport assault on democracy included photocopied ballots, altered hours at polling places, a mysterious bag of votes and Finch’s abuse of the city’s emergency notification system to increase turnout on Election Day.

Murphy, locked in a dead heat with Republican Linda McMahon, needs the grimy Bridgeport Guarantee. He got it from Finch on Friday while visiting small businesses in the poverty-wracked city. A laughing Finch boasts even if it takes a couples of days to get the results,”You can be guaranteed you’re going to get the vote.” Two years after the 2010 fiasco, it remains no laughing matter to the rest of Connecticut.

Police whistle-blower let go for reporting a "dirty DUI" arrest

A law enforcement whistle-blower who told investigators he witnessed a Contra Costa County sheriff's deputy conduct a "dirty DUI" arrest has been relieved from duty in what he said was retaliation for breaking the police code of silence.

William Howard of Danville worked as a reserve in the Sheriff's Department for 19 years until he was dismissed Tuesday without explanation and ordered to turn in his uniform and weapon.
A department spokesman, Jimmy Lee, described Howard's release as an internal matter and declined to discuss it. Reserves are "at will" employees and are subject to dismissal without cause, according to California state law.[...]

Howard's Feb.23, 2011, statement played a critical role into the investigation of Tanabe, an associate of private investigator Christopher Butler, 50, of Antioch.

A federal grand jury later indicted Butler and Tanabe on conspiracy charges alleging they worked in cahoots to arrest three men Butler had targeted on behalf of his clients - the ex-wives of the targeted men.

.Covering up a crime or conspiring to engage in a cover-up is a felony.

Dingy Harry Reid's fabulous land deal

Quid pro quo? We can't say for sure, but this one really smells.

BULLHEAD CITY, ARIZ. — It's hard to buy undeveloped land in booming northern Arizona for $166 an acre. But now-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid effectively did just that when a longtime friend decided to sell property owned by the employee pension fund that he controlled.

In 2002, Reid (D-Nev.) paid $10,000 to a pension fund controlled by Clair Haycock, a Las Vegas lubricants distributor and his friend for 50 years. The payment gave the senator full control of a 160-acre parcel in Bullhead City that Reid and the pension fund had jointly owned. Reid's price for the equivalent of 60 acres of undeveloped desert was less than one-tenth of the value the assessor placed on it at the time.

Six months after the deal closed, Reid introduced legislation to address the plight of lubricants dealers who had their supplies disrupted by the decisions of big oil companies. It was an issue the Haycock family had brought to Reid's attention in 1994, according to a source familiar with the events.

If Reid were to sell the property for any of the various estimates of its value, his gain on the $10,000 investment could range from $50,000 to $290,000. Keep on reading...

The Chicago Way: Democratic state lawmaker from Chicago allegedly recorded taking a bribe. Gets 76 percent of the vote.

It probably helped him at the polls.

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A Democratic state lawmaker from Chicago charged last week with accepting a bribe overwhelmingly won his party's primary on Tuesday, reinforcing the reputation of the nation's third-largest city for turning a blind eye to corruption.

Derrick Smith, appointed a year ago to fill a vacancy in the Illinois House of Representatives, was leading with 76 percent of the vote with more than 80 percent of the ballots counted, according to the Chicago Board of Elections.

Federal prosecutors said they recorded Smith accepting $7,000 in cash from a government informant in exchange for writing a letter supporting a state grant for a day care center.

Smith was indicted by a grand jury, arrested, and freed on bond. He has yet to enter a plea in the case. If convicted, Smith could face a maximum of ten years in prison.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels: Air Force General Pressured to Change Testimony to Favor Company of Obama Donor

The four-star Air Force general who oversees Air Force Space Command walked into a highly secured room on Capitol Hill a week ago to give a classified briefing to lawmakers and staff, and dropped a surprise. Pressed by members, Gen. William Shelton said the White House tried to pressure him to change his testimony to make it more favorable to a company tied to a large Democratic donor...


According to officials familiar with the situation, Shelton’s prepared testimony was leaked in advance to the company. And the White House asked the general to alter the testimony to add two points: that the general supported the White House policy to add more broadband for commercial use; and that the Pentagon would try to resolve the questions around LightSquared with testing in just 90 days. Shelton chafed at the intervention, which seemed to soften the Pentagon’s position and might be viewed as helping the company as it tries to get the project launched, officials said. Third Demo Massachusetts House speaker in a row convicted for corruption

Of course the The Boston Globe story failed to mention the party affiliation of the corrupt former House speaker. I would claim this was media bias for Democrats, but a simpler explanation would be that if you are a corrupt politician in Massachusetts, it is assumed you are a democrat.

Noting that DiMasi was the third Massachusetts House speaker in a row to be convicted in federal court, Wolf also said he was disturbed that DiMasi still had support from some lawmakers who felt he had done nothing wrong. Wolf said he felt the case showed that corruption was a regular occurrence on Beacon Hill.

DiMasi had no comment after the hearing. He stood by as his lawyer, Thomas Kiley, said, “A chapter is closed. We’re happy to be past it. The next chapter in this judicial proceeding will be in the First Circuit [federal appeals court in Boston]. That’s all we have to say.”

Obama Administration Giving Corrupt Unions a Free Pass

The last Office of Labor Management report on union corruption dates back to the Bush administration. A report was supposed to be released in January 2010, but Team Obama has failed to do so.

(Daily Caller)- The Office of Labor Management Statistics (OLMS) was supposed to release an annual report tracking labor unions and evidence of corruption in union leadership in January 2010 but still hasn’t released the document.

OLMS, which falls under the Department of Labor, has released no such tracking report since George W. Bush’s administration, something that has the conservative nonprofit organization Americans for Limited Government (ALG) up in arms. ALG filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the 2009 report, and OLMS denied the group’s request by saying it needed more time to complete the report. Originally, however, those reports were publicly available on the OLMS website.

Boxer Resurrected Defunct Indian Tribe, Changed Bill to Allow Casino Gambling, Son Pockets $8 Million as Consultant?

Barbara Boxer's son reportedly made as much as $8 million in a failed (so far) attempt to build an Indian casino on the outskirts of San Francisco. When we dig into the reported details, we have to wonder if this isn't old fashioned corruption.

In 1998, Lynn Woolsey introduced legislation reinstating an Indian tribe in the wine country of Northern California that had been declared defunct by the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1958...

In 2000, Boxer helpfully picked up the Woolsey bill, but changed the prohibition against gaming, and designated any land that the group owned to be considered as a reservation...

After getting the provision allowing the newly reconstituted Indian tribe to build a casino, the tribe reportedly hired two firms Barbara Boxer's son was a partner in.

The tribe turned its fortunes over to two firms to make its dreams of wealth come true — Platinum Advisers, a political consulting/lobbying firm, and Kenwood Investments 2. Amazingly, and I’m certain quite coincidentally, Barbara Boxer’s son, Doug, was a partner in each firm...

According to Reference.com, Doug Boxer’s take from the project was a very Abramoff-like $8 million.

It sounds like there may be a swamp here that needs draining...

Obama's Former Car Czar Near Settlement With SEC for Corruption

Steve Rattner oversaw the nationalization bankruptcy of GM and handover to the UAW the bankruptcy of Chrysler for President Obama. Instead of following normal bankruptcy law, these deals were done the 'Chicago way.' In other words, the whole mess reeked of corruption. Team Obama seems to have gotten away with this outrage, but former car czar Steve Rattner has rolled snake eyes with the SEC for his previous business dealings. He is near a deal with the SEC to ban him from financial markets for two years and pay a $6 million fine for making a pay-off for investment in his former business Quadrangle Group LLC .

Quadrangle Group LLC co-founder Steven Rattner, the subject of state and federal investigations of corruption at New York state’s pension fund, is near a settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The proposed accord includes a two-year ban from the financial industry and a $6 million fine, according to the person, who declined to be identified because the talks are private. In June, the SEC proposed a three-year ban, while Rattner suggested one to two years, a person with knowledge of those negotiations said at the time.

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) said she did not know she was another corrupt Democrat

After awarding as many as two a year Congressional Black Caucus Foundation scholarships to her family members and relatives of an aide, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) claims she did not know that was wrong.

"Rep. Johnson told us that she did not know the rules of our scholarships, and that once she realized she erred, she would make retribution to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation in terms of returning the money," she said.

Now that she has been busted as another corrupt Congressional Black Caucus member, Rep. Johnson is willing to give the money back. I wonder if she will make a trip to her garage freezer to retrieve some cold cash.
