(CNSNews.com) – In contrast to the steep decline in the gasoline price index over the past year (which led to a decline in the overall Consumer Price Index), the seasonally adjusted electricity price index hit an all-time high in January, according to data released last week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In January, the seasonally adjusted price index for electricity was 212.290. That was up from 210.489 in December, which was the record up until then. Before that, the high had been the 209.341 recorded in March of last year.
The annual electricity price index set a record in 2014 of 208.020 up from 200.750 in 2013.
In January, the average price for a kilowatthour (KWH) of electricity also hit an all-time high for that month of the year.

Gasoline prices are down, but electric rates are still rising...
The war on coal is working from Obama's point of view.

Gasoline prices are plummeting and natural gas prices are relatively low, but electricity prices are still climbing. Not only that, residential electricity prices are expected to hit record levels in 2015 and 2016, according to federal government projections.
U.S. average electricity rates will hit a record high, this year, at 38 percent higher than they were in 2001, according to the Energy Information Administration. That record is expected to be beaten in 2016, as prices hit 12.86 cents per kilowatthour (kWh)– the highest annual average price in the 21st century.
Electricity prices have been creeping up since 2001, according EIA data, and prices are set to rise even further as coal-fired power plants are shut down due to Environmental Protection Agency clean air regulations. So far, 381 coal-fired generators are slated to shutdown over the coming years due to EPA rules.

Confirmed: Climate change believers use more electricity...
Al Gore's mansion uses more electricity than some African villages...
Via Telegraph:

People who claim to worry about climate change use more electricity than those who do not, a Government study has found.
Those who say they are concerned about the prospect of climate change consume more energy than those who say it is “too far into the future to worry about,” the study commissioned by the Department for Energy and Climate Change found.
That is in part due to age, as people over 65 are more frugal with electricity but much less concerned about global warming.
However, even when pensioners are discounted, there is only a “weak trend” to show that people who profess to care about climate change do much to cut their energy use.
The findings were based on the Household Electricity Survey, which closely monitored the electricity use and views of 250 families over a year. The report, by experts from Loughborough University and Cambridge Architectural Research, was commissioned and published by DECC.

Obama's EPA Prepares to Skyrocket Your Electric Rates
President Obama admitted his Cap-and-Trade plan would cause electric rates to skyrocket. He can't get Cap-and-Trade through Congress, but he can backdoor the same result by EPA carbon CO2 regulation.
NYT - In the next weeks and months, Lisa P. Jackson, the Environmental Protection Agency administrator, is scheduled to establish regulations on smog, mercury, carbon dioxide, mining waste and vehicle emissions that will affect every corner of the economy.
She is working under intense pressure from opponents in Congress, from powerful industries, from impatient environmentalists and from the Supreme Court, which just affirmed the agency’s duty to address global warming emissions, a project that carries profound economic implications.
The new rules will roll out just as President Obama’s re-election campaign is getting under way, with a White House highly sensitive to the probability of political damage from a flood of government mandates that will strike particularly hard at the manufacturing sector in states crucial to the 2012 election.Obama: My Plan Makes Electricity Rates Skyrocket

Arizona Reacts To LA Boycott By Threatening To Pull The Plug On Their Electricity

Los Angeles voted to boycott Arizona in reaction to Arizona's immigration enforcement law. LA failed to consider where they get a large portion of their electricy. Now, Arizona is threatening to retaliate by pulling the plug.
An Arizona utility commissioner said he's willing to pull the plug on Los Angeles if the city goes through with a boycott of his state.
In a letter to the city of LA, a member of Arizona's power commission said he would ask Arizona utility companies to cut off the power supply to Los Angeles...
