It's about time.

WASHINGTON — Kathleen Sebelius, the health and human services secretary, is resigning, ending a stormy five-year tenure marred by the disastrous rollout of President Obama’s signature legislative achievement, the Affordable Care Act.

Mr. Obama accepted Ms. Sebelius’s resignation this week, and on Friday morning he will nominate Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, to replace her, officials said.

The departure comes as the Obama administration tries to move beyond its early stumbles in carrying out the law, persuade a still-skeptical public of its lasting benefits, and help Democratic incumbents, who face blistering attack ads after supporting the legislation, survive the midterm elections this fall.

Report: General Stanley McChrystal Resigns After Being Called On The Carpet For Telling The Truth

General Stanley McChrystal reportedly mocked VP Joe Biden as a nobody and said President Obama wasn't prepared to talk to him and wasn't paying attention. According to the report, McChrystal called the Obama meeting a photo op and said Obama looked "uncomfortable and intimidated" by the roomful of military brass. After hearing the remarks, President Obama became furious and called General McChrystal to Washington to explain himself. Robert Gibbs told reporters, Obama may show McChrystal the door.

A furious Joe Biden called Obama last night to tell him to read the now-infamous Rolling Stone profile. A shocked Obama swiftly distributed the article to his senior advisers and held an emergency strategy discussion, in which they decided to call McChrystal back to Washington for the face-to-face. Asked about McChrystal’s complaint that Obama wasn’t paying attention to him, Gibbs replied, “He’ll have his undivided attention tomorrow.”

Reportedly, McChrystal has beat Obama to the punch and offered his resignation.

The Telegraph reported:

A senior Capitol Hill source tells me that General Stanley McChrystal had tendered his resignation to President Barack Obama and that the White House is actively discussing a replacement who could be quickly confirmed by the Senate.

The source said that among the names being touted as possible successors are General James Mattis, the outgoing head of the US Joint Forces Command and due to retire after being passed over as US Marine Corps commander, and Lieutenant General William Caldwell, commander of Nato’s Training Mission in Afghanistan.

Of course, offering to resign is not the same as actually resigning and it remains to be seen whether Mr Obama will accept the resignation. Donald Rumsfeld offered to resign as Pentagon chief on more than one occasion but President George W. Bush requested that he continue in post before eventually firing him on November 2006.

A municipal court judge in New Jersey resigned this week after the state Supreme Court advised him not to promote his new movie -- a satire about President Obama's life that depicts him making a deal with the devil in order to become a communist dictator.

"It put me in an impossible position," the ex-judge, Kenneth Del Vecchio, told TPM in an interview today. "I had two choices: Either I could remain as a judge and shut up and have no free speech rights whatsoever ... or I had to resign."

New York Times Finally Reports Van Jones Story (on page A17)

After weeks of ignoring the controversy surrounding President Obama's Green Jobs Czar Anthiny Van Jones, the New York Times has reported the resignation and called it a "victory for Republicans." The NYT buried the article on page A17. Here is part of their article.

Jones, an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly "green jobs" with the White House Council on Environmental Quality was linked to efforts suggesting a government role in the 2001 terror attacks and to derogatory comments about Republicans.

The resignation comes as Obama is working to regain his footing in the contentious health care debate.

Palin did not say what the future hold for her, but many think she is preparing for the 2012 Presidential race.

Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning.

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said.

There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and most, if not all, of her cabinet.

Parnell ran unsuccessfully against Rep. Don Young in the Republican primary last year.

The stunning announcement by Palin opens the floodgates for the 2010 gubernatorial race. Speculation that Palin might not seek re-election had fueled further conjecture of who might run.
