Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) vetoes bill that passed House and Senate with only 1 no vote...

The bill relates to red light cameras. A red light camera company had it's lobbyists shower $63,000 on McAuliffe and his party. 

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) vetoed legislation Monday that passed unanimously in the House of Delegates and 38 to 1 in the state Senate that would have given red light camera ticket recipients the option of seeking an extra layer of due process.
"Any finding in a district court that an operator has violated an ordinance adopted as provided in this section shall be appealable to the circuit court in a civil proceeding," House Bill 1040 stated.[...]
To defeat all legislation that would affect red light cameras, Redflex Traffic Systems of Australia hired the lobbying firm of Hunton and Williams to influence the General Assembly and the McAuliffe administration. The firm showered the newly sworn in governor with campaign cash, including $25,000 for his inauguration, $10,599 for his gubernatorial run, $10,000 to the state Democratic Party and $17,836 for McAuliffe's lieutenant governor and attorney general, plus their inaugural festivities. 

Ken Cuccinelli focuses on opposition to Obamacare...

If Virginians won't vote for the candidate who was first to file a lawsuit to stop Obmacare, the deserve the yoke of Obama and Terry McAuliffe around their neck.

With just a day before Virginians head to the polls, Cuccinelli spent Monday morning targeting his Democratic opponent Terry McAuliffe and other national Democrats for their support for Obamacare.

“I say to Virginia, let’s send them a message and say no tomorrow to Obamacare,” Cuccinelli said to loud applause at an indoor rally in this rural Northern Virginia town 50 miles west of Washington, D.C. Joined by fellow Republican candidates E.W. Jackson (for lieutenant governor) and Mark Obenshain (for attorney general), as well as Florida senator Marco Rubio, a hoarse Cuccinelli argued that the choice for Virginia’s governor would have major consequences with how the federal health care law would be implemented.

Sheik Shaker Elsayed, the imam of the Dar al-Hijrah Mosque in Falls Church, Va., advocated armed jihad before an Ethiopian Muslim group gathered at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. last week.

“Muslim men when it is a price to pay, they are first in line,” Elsayed said in comments seen on a YouTube video found by the Creeping Sharia blog. “They are the first in the prayer line. They are the first in the zakat (charity) line. They are the first in the hajj line. They are the first in the clean-up line. They are the first in the community-service line. They are the first in jihad line. They are the first in the da’wa line.”

“But they are last if anything is being distributed, unless it is arms for jihad,” Elsayed said. “We are the first to rush and run to defend our community and defend ourselves. The enemies of Allah are lining up; the question for us is, ‘Are we lining, or are we afraid because, because they may call us terrorists.’”

Being called “terrorists” should not matter to Muslims because Muslims are being called terrorists anyway, Elsayed said.

“You are a terrorist because you are a Muslim,” Elsayed said. “Well give them a run for their money. Make it worth it. Make this title worth it, and be good a Muslim.”

Thousands of part-time state workers, including many in Hampton Roads, are being told they'll be allowed to work no more than 29 hours a week going forward.

The reason: The federal Affordable Care Act requires that employees working 30 hours a week or more receive health care benefits - which would cost Virginia tens of millions of dollars a year.
The new policy will mean a pay cut for many part-timers, including adjunct college professors.

The 29-hour limit is on its way to becoming state law, thanks to language inserted into the state budget at the request of Gov. Bob McDonnell's administration. The language appears in both versions of the budget adopted Thursday by the Senate and House of Delegates.

Breaking: Rick Perry Sues to Get on Virgina Primary Ballot

(BI)- Texas Gov. Rick Perry has filed suit in federal court against the Virginia Republican Party and the Virginia Board of Elections in order to gain a spot on the Commonwealth's primary ballot.

Perry was excluded after the party found he had not submitted enough valid signatures by the deadline last Thursday. His campaign submitted 6,000 of the required 10,000, according to the suit.

The lawsuit alleges that Perry's 1st and 14th Amendment rights were violated by the requirement that those circulating the petitions also be eligible or registered voters of Virginia. Keep on reading...

Two Demo State Senators are trying to change Virginia law in order to thwart a fraud investigation of Dr. Michael Mann of Climategate fame. Why am I not shocked? Global warming true believers never want you to peek behind the Wizard's curtain.

Two Democratic state senators are proposing to change state law to thwart Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s efforts to investigate a former University of Virginia professor’s research on global warming...

The bill is in response to efforts by Cuccinelli, a Republican, to investigate possible fraud by former UVa professor Michael Mann in relation to five taxpayer-funded research grants between 1999 and 2005.

The senators, A. Donald McEachin and J. Chapman Petersen, will meet this morning with Del. David J. Toscano, D-Charlottesville, at the Capitol to discuss the legislation.

A Federal Judge in Virginia has ruled the federal government can not require you to buy health insurance.

A federal judge in Virginia has declared the Obama administration's health care reform law unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson is the first judge to rule against the law, which has been upheld by two others in Virginia and Michigan.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli filed the lawsuit challenging the law's requirement that citizens buy health insurance or pay a penalty starting in 2014.

Virginia Smacks Down Obama and Obamacare

Many states are moving to ban individual health insurance mandates. Monday, the democratic controlled Senate in Virginia passed a ban on individual mandates. President Obama is still pushing HCR with individual mandates. He is out of touch with America.

Virginia's Democratic-controlled state Senate passed measures Monday that would make it illegal to require individuals to purchase health insurance, a direct challenge to the party's efforts in Washington to reform health care..

Republicans win big in New Jersey and Virginia

Republicans have picked up the Governorships of Virginia and New Jersey. Virginia was not a surprise. Recent Polling had Republican Bob McDonnell up by a double digit lead. The final margin of victory was larger than expected at 17 points. New Jersey was expected to be close, but Democrats usually win those after finding several boxes full of uncounted Democratic ballots. The 4 point margin of victory by Republican Chris Christie over current Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine precluded the kind of behind the scenes election stealing Democrats have become famous for in recent years. President Obama campaigned heavily for Corzine. The night wasn't a complete success for Republicans. The Conservative candidate in NY-23, Doug Hoffman, lost a close race to the Democrat Bill Owens. This race was marred by the liberal Republican candidate dropping out and endorsing the Democrat. Her supporters broke 3-1 for the Democrat. Meanwhile, President Obama claimed he wasn't interested. Reportedly, he watched a Chicago Bulls basketball game instead of election results. I doubt that is accurate, but we can be sure blue dog Democrats were watching.

FOX News reported:

Republicans swept to victory in the New Jersey and Virginia governor's races Tuesday, scoring a pair of decisive wins in states that voted for President Obama a year ago.

The Democrats were able to prevent a shut-out, though, pulling out a narrow victory in a closely watched congressional election in upstate New York. Democrat Bill Owens beat Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman in that race.

The Republican victories nevertheless marked a potential turnaround after two consecutive cycles of midterm losses. In New Jersey, Republican Chris Christie beat out Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine, even though Obama campaigned heavily for the incumbent in the closing days of the race and the state has not elected a Republican governor since 1993.

Can Republicans Score a Triple Tomorrow?

The three hotly contested and closely watched races on November 3rd are the Virginia Governor's race, the New Jersey Governor's and the special election for for the NY-23 seat in the House of Representatives. Loss of any of these races is a blow to President Obama and the Democratic Party. After the 2008 elections, Democrats were hoping to ride the wave of Obama's popularity and newly registered Democratic voters for years to come. The polls indicate the Virginia Governor's race is a lost cause for Democrats. NY-23 doesn't look very likely since Republican state Assemblywoman Dierdre Scozzafava dropped out. Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman has surged in the poll. New Jersey is too close to call, but could fall to the Republicans.

The Telegraph reported:

Victories in the governors' races in Virginia and New Jersey and a contest for a vacant House of Representatives seat in New York would deliver a blow to Mr Obama almost exactly a year to the day since he won the presidency.

A rejection of Democrats in all three contests would be a major setback for Mr Obama because he has invested a large amount of time and personal political capital by campaigning extensively in the two governor elections.

Democrats to lose two Governorships?

Will the Democrats to lose two Governorships in the upcoming election? The polls indicate that may be the outcome. Both races are being determined by national issues. In spite of the fact Barack Obama won both states by a significant margin, voters are unhappy.

Creigh Deeds: Democratic nominee for governor in Virginia has a tax meltdown (video)

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds is one of those Democrats who is planning to raise taxes without admitting he is raising taxes. Deeds really gets his foot stuck in his mouth here. Enjoy.

Creigh Deeds came out of nowhere to win the Democratic nomination for governor in Virginia — and he’s heading back to nowhere if he continues to give answers like this. Deeds starts off by saying, “I have no plans to raise taxes,” but then says the opposite when it comes to raising money for transportation. When reporters try to square that statement with his claim in the debate that he would not raise taxes, Deeds then says that pledge only applied to general fund taxes, which led to the next question as to whether Deeds realized that gas taxes go into the general fund and are not earmarked for transportation. That’s when Deeds snaps at the reporter, referring to her as “young lady” when scolding her — and realizes his mistake a moment too late:

Sarah Palin Carries More Weight With Virginia Voters Than President Obama

According to an August 5th poll of Virginia voters, Sarah Palin is more popular than Barack Obama. When ask if their respective endorsements would help the Republican or Democratic gubernatorial candidates, twenty-six percent said Palin's campaigning for Bob McDonnell would make them more likely to vote for him. Only fourteen percent said President Obama campaigning for Creigh Deeds would make them more likely to vote for him.
