War Preparations: U.S. moves advanced missile defense system to Guam...

Pyongyang has "ratified" a possible nuclear strike on the U.S, whatever that means.

Via BBC:
The US has announced it is moving an advanced missile defence system to the Pacific island of Guam as North Korea steps up its warlike rhetoric.

The latest statement from Pyongyang "formally informs" the Pentagon it has "ratified" a possible nuclear strike.

North Korea has threatened to target the US and South Korea in recent weeks.

Its latest statement came amid warnings from US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel that North Korea is a "real and clear danger" to the US and its allies.

The US Department of Defense said on Wednesday it would deploy the ballistic Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System (Thaad) in the coming weeks.

The Thaad system includes a truck-mounted launcher, interceptor missiles, and AN/TPY-2 tracking radar, together with an integrated fire control system.

Flexibility: Obama cancels final phase of a Europe-based missile defense system

Vladimir Putin and Russians are most happy about this decision...

Via NY Times:
MOSCOW — The United States has effectively canceled the final phase of a Europe-based missile defense system that was fiercely opposed by Russia and cited repeatedly by the Kremlin as a major obstacle to cooperation on nuclear arms reductions and other issues.
Russian officials here have so far declined to comment on the announcement, which was made in Washington on Friday by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel as part of a plan to deploy additional ballistic missile interceptors to counter North Korea. The cancellation of some European-based defenses will allow resources to be shifted to protect against North Korea.
Aides to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia said there would be no reaction until early next week, when they expect to be briefed by American officials.

You may remember Obama told Dmitry Medvedev, in a 'hot mic' moment, he would be more flexible after the election...

Cover Up: Obama administration offers to pay defense contractors legal costs if they will not send out October lay off notices triggered by sequestration...

Cover Up: Obama administration offers to pay defense contractors legal costs if they will not send out October lay off notices triggered by sequestration.

Via National Journal:
The White House moved to prevent defense and other government contractors from issuing mass layoff notices in anticipation of sequestration, even going so far to say that the contracting agencies would cover any potential litigation costs or employee compensation costs that could follow.
Some defense companies—including Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems and EADS North America—have said they expect to send notices to their employees 60 days before sequestration takes effect to comply with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires companies to give advance warning to workers deemed reasonably likely to lose their jobs. Companies appeared undeterred by a July 30 guidance from the Labor Department, which said issuing such notices would be inappropriate, due to the possibility that sequestration may be averted. The Labor Department also said companies do not have enough information about how the cuts might be implemented to determine which workers or specific programs could be affected should Congress fail to reach a compromise to reduce the deficit, triggering $1.2 trillion in spending cuts, half from defense, half non-defense. For 2013, that would amount to $109 billion in spending cuts.

Chart of the Day: The Founders on Defense Spending

As you can see from the chart prepared by the Heritage Organization, modern era defense spending is a much smaller part of the federal budget than it has been historically. Liberals and democrats like to spread the myth defense spending is responsible for the huge growth in the federal deficit. This chart clearly dispels that myth. Huge growth in social program spending has driven up the federal deficit, not defense spending.

Arizona State Defense Fund Doubles in 24 Hours After Immigration Lawsuit

Donations to help Arizona fight the Obama administration's lawsuit that seeks to block them from helping enforce immigration law are pouring in. Donors indicate they are disgusted by the administrations actions. There are many cities in the U.S. who have declared themselves sanctuary cities. They are in directly violating and thwarting federal law. The Obama administration hasn't filed a lawsuit against any of these cities. Instead, they file a lawsuit against a state that is actually trying to help enforce the law. It is clear the Obama administration has no desire to enforce immigration law. If President Obama could push a button today and remove every illegal immigrant from the country, he wouldn't touch it. The administration indirectly admitted they do not want to deport very many of the illegal immigrants in the U.S. in the lawsuit filed against Arizona. After much talk and hoopla about Arizona's immigration enforcement law violating peoples rights, this wasn't included in the the lawsuit against Arizona. The Obama administration claimed in the lawsuit, Arizona was thwarting and usurping the federal governments plan by trying to identify and deport every illegal in the state. Apparently, the federal governments plan, under the leadership of President Obama, is to ignore the bulk of illegal immigrants in this country.

The US Sold us out

Poland was very offended at the scrapping of the missile defense in Europe. The Polish Prime minister refused to take Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's phone call:
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed today that he declined last night to take a call from the U.S. informing him of the decision to scrap planned missile-defense bases in his country.

Two U.S.-based sources close to the Polish government said Thursday that Tusk also rejected a call from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — on the grounds that, as the head of the government, he should speak to the president.

"Hillary called — and the reason he turned it down was because of protocol," said a source.

The headline from Polish tabloid eFact.pl:
Treason! Russia, the U.S. sold us.

Vladimir Putin was happy about the decision:
SOCHI, Russia (Reuters) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Friday a decision by the United States to scrap plans for a missile defense shield in Europe was positive.

Putin, speaking to investors in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, said he now expected the United States to back a bid by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan to join the World Trade Organisation.

"I expect that after this correct and brave decision, others will follow, including the complete removal of all restrictions on the transfer of high technology to Russia and activity to widen the membership of the World Trade Organisation to (include) Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus," Putin said.

Did Obama cancel the European missile defense on Joe Biden's advice?

VP Joe Biden claims he was deeply involved in the decision to cancel the missile shield in Europe. That explains a lot. Apparently, Biden doesn't think Iran is a threat. Some experts fear they will have enough uranium for a nuclear warhead by the end of this year. Iran is expected to have ICBM capability by 2015 or sooner.

CNN reported:

But he did explain the logic of doing so, saying Iran -- a key concern for the United States -- was not a threat.
...
I am less concerned -- much less concerned -- about the Iranian potential. They have no potential at this moment...

Biden said he is "deeply" involved in the review of the missile defense program.

Sotomayor’s uses “play on words” defense (video)

Sonia Sotomayor tried to use the “play on words” defense about her “wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would, more often than not, reach a better conclusion” comment. Senator Sessions didn't accept that response and pressed her on the statement. Sotomayor said her "wise Latina" play on words comment "fell flat" in a speech in 2001. If the comment "fell flat" why did she use this comment at least five times?

North Korea doesn't want us to defend Hawaii

Since we are putting a missile defense shield around Hawaii, North Korea is accusing the US of preparing for a preemptive attack against them.

From the Washington Post:
SEOUL, South Korea -- North Korea criticized the U.S. on Monday for positioning missile defense systems around Hawaii, calling the deployment part of a plot to attack the regime and saying it would bolster its nuclear arsenal in retaliation.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said he ordered the deployment of a ground-based, mobile missile intercept system and radar system to Hawaii amid concerns the North may fire a long-range missile toward the islands, about 4,500 miles away.

"Through the U.S. forces' clamorous movements, it has been brought to light that the U.S. attempt to launch a pre-emptive strike on our republic has become a brutal fact," the North's main Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in a commentary.

The paper also accused the U.S. of deploying nuclear-powered aircraft and atomic-armed submarines in waters near the Korean peninsula, saying the moves prove "the U.S. pre-emptive nuclear war" on the North is imminent.

The commentary, carried by the official Korean Central News Agency, said the North will bolster its nuclear arsenal in self-defense.

The Jawa Report has a great comment:
So let me get this straight. First North Korea launches short, mid and long range missiles, detonates a nuclear bomb, threatens nuclear war, announces it's going to launch a missile towards Hawaii on Independence Day and the US is gearing for war?

Can you guess who else is against a missile defense shield....President Obama.

US Sends USS McCain to Intercept North Korean Ship

From Gateway Pundit:

Irony of the day... The USS John McCain is moving into position and preparing to intercept a North Korean flagged ship that is thought to be carrying weapons.

US Prepares to Defend Hawaii From North Korean Attack

The Obama Administration and the UN have completely failed to have any control or influence on North Korea. The North Koreans are threatening to shoot a long range missile towards Hawaii and they promise a 1000 fold response if we respond. They obviously think President Obama is an inexperienced wimp and the UN is a paper tiger. Earlier this week, President Obama and the UN asked North Korea, "Please let us search your ships". If they refuse, nothing will be done.

President Obama does not know his Defense Chiefs name

President Obama does not know his Defense chiefs name. He has flubbed it twice in one week. He needs to talk to Bob Gates more often and he will have a better understanding of what this country needs for national security. MyFoxDC is reporting:
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama sees his secretary of defense just about every day, but he still flubbed Robert Gates' name on Thursday.

Gates was in the crowd for Obama's national security speech. Pointing him out, the president said "William Gates" was on hand. Perhaps Obama was thinking of Bill Gates, the Microsoft billionaire.

The defense chief, who goes by Bob, was also misidentified at a Pentagon ceremony on Tuesday. Then, he was introduced as Ronald Gates.

Obama flip-flops on missile defense

Candidate Barack Obama had severe reservations about missile defense. President Barack Obama thinks we need it. His defense department called some missile defense technologies such as the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) and the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense programs proven.

The Obama Administration talks missile defense out of both sides of their mouth

The Obama Administration talked missile defense out of both sides of their mouth Monday. While in Prague, Obama pledged to support missile defense according to the Telegraph.
"As long as the threat from Iran persists, we will go forward with a missile defence system that is cost-effective and proven," he told a crowd of about 20,000 gathered in Hradcany Square, next to Prague Castle.

The same day his Defense Secretary was proposing deep cuts in missile defense programs according to Fox News.

Gates called for $1.4 billion in cuts to missile defense as part of a budget plan he says will "reshape the priorities" of the Pentagon and "rebalance this department's programs in order to institutionalize and finance our capabilities to fight the wars we are in today and the scenarios we are most likely to face in the years ahead."

Among the proposed cuts would come the end of the "multiple kill vehicle" program -- a hovering machine meant to shoot down enemy missiles, even from space.

Other high-tech missile defense programs would also be scaled back. The second prototype aircraft of the Airborne Laser -- a Boeing 747-mounted laser meant to intercept missiles near their launch areas -- would be terminated and the design efforts to date turned into research and development.

The truth is Obama does not support a missile defense program. he was just playing to public fears about the North Korean missile launch. Missile defense will die a slow death under the Obama Administration.

Obama Administration proposes deep cuts in weapons programs

Barack Obama campaigned on a plan to make deep cuts in the defense department. He has forced Defense Secretary Robert Gates to make proposals for those deep cuts; including an almost elimination of the F-22 fighter jet program. Secretary Gates is so chocked up he is almost unable to get the details out.

Obama wants to scrap our last chance to stop a nuclear missile attack

Barack Obama is willing to trade away our only chance to stop a nuclear missile attack by a rogue nation. A Russian newspaper reported the deal was offered in a letter sent to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. In return, Obama wanted help in dealing with Iran. We would be much better off with a nuclear missile shield than a promise from the Russians. A promise won't intercept an ICBM.

Report: Obama Offers to Scrap Missile Shield If Russia Cooperates on Iran
President Obama wrote to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to tell him Russia's aid in resolving the threat from Iran would make plans for a missile defense shield in Europe unnecessary, according to Russian news agencies.

President Obama offered to consider scrapping plans for a missile defense shield in Europe if Russia helps rein in Iran's nuclear program, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported.

The article said Obama wrote to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to tell him Russia's aid in resolving the threat from Iran would make the missile shield plans unnecessary, according to an account from Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

A senior administration official told FOX News that Obama sent a letter to Medvedev but "we won't comment on the specifics." (excerpt) read more at foxnews.com
