Obama Plans to Drop Public Option

After watching his poll numbers plummet to new lows, President Obama appears to be ready to throw the "public option" government run health care plan under the bus. Politico is reporting Obama is going to get more involved in health care reform after the August break. He is going to specify what he want in a bill, but he will not insist on a "public option" plan. This change of course may help Obama get some kind of "face saving" health care legislation to a vote, but his already fading popularity with Democrats may take a hit.

Politico reported:
...And although House leaders have said their members will demand the inclusion of a public insurance option, Obama has no plans to insist on it himself, the officials said....

Top officials privately concede the past six weeks have taken their toll on Obama's popularity.
